About this project
The Audio Description Theater Tour
Our mission is to enhance the theatrical experience for the blind and the visually impaired and demonstrate how easily any theatre can be made more accessible.
With The Audio Description Theater Tour we will help make the 2011/2012 Chicago Theatre season more accessible in conjunction with theater companies across the Chicagoland area.
The Audio Describer views the play from a secluded location in the theater, relaying non-verbal stage action (entrances/exits, costuming, settings, etc.) to patrons, who are equipped with wireless listening devices.
Money Pledged to the tour will be utilized for:
· The purchase of a portable audio description kit (which includes the listening devices, a microphone and control booth).
· The purchase of a video monitor along with a non-recording camera, which allows the production to be described from a remote location. This is an excellent option for any theater with limited space.a
· A portable technical booth, which would allow the describer seclusion, if needed.
· Tactile mock-ups of each play’s setting (labeled in Braille), which will be part of the pre-show "Touch Tour" The Audio, Video & Photo Archiving of the tour
Monies will also be utilized for tour expenses such as theater tickets for patrons, pre-show activities and related fees.
