What is YksiKaksi?
As renters, many of us don’t have the luxury to choose our own furniture or lamps. With YksiKaksi, you can cover the ugly or boring lamps that you’re stuck with. It obviously also works great as a regular lampshade.
Choose your colour of lampshade: black or white. Then the fasteners: white, black, brass (gold colour), or colour mix (green, blue, yellow, orange, pink, and purple). Backers will be asked to provide their colour choices via web survey, after the campaign ends.
YksiKaksi means OneTwo in Finnish. Tomi is from Finland. Mira is not – but one of the few things she knows in Finnish, is to count to two. Whenever she interjects into a Finish conversation, she says ‘Yksi Kaksi’. We also like it as we are a design duo.
We who created YksiKaksi are Tomi and Mira, students at the Design Products MA Programme at the Royal College of Art, known for its playful, experimental approach. This Quickstarter campaign within Kickstarter is led by Oscar Lhermitte, creator of TAPE ✂️ STICKERS and MOON.
What do I get for my pledge?
The production costs includes material, laser cutting, fasteners and packaging. We are using the most affordable shipping options for your benefit.
What is the proposed timeline?
Autumn 2018: Developing the idea and prototypes, sourcing manufacturers and getting feedback on the design
January 2019: Preparing the campaign
February 2019: The launch of the Quickstarter campaign on Kickstarter!
March 2019: The end of the hopefully successful campaign!
June 2019: Graduation from the Royal College of Art – come to the graduation show!
July 2019: Manufacturing of lampshades including quality control.
August 2019: Rewards kick-off.
September 2019: You should be the recipient of the YksiKaksi lampshade!
What we do with the money?
We will use the pledged money to produce 100 pieces of the lamp shades. Materials and laser cutting takes the biggest part. Also we need money for packaging materials and the rest of our target money will go to shipping costs.
Risks and challenges
We have contacted manufacturers and have selected the one we're proceeding with.
The main risks would be poor quality laser cutting, but we planning on getting samples from the manufacturer to quality assess. We are also quality checking the fasteners.
The only other thing would be the mail service making a mistake, but those tend to be rare – we are using the the Royal Mail within the UK.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
