After years of working on other various properties and projects, from "Star Wars" to "The Simpsons" to a graphic novel for the band RUSH, Artist Tom Hodges, along with his wife, Terri Hodges, are now bringing their own Comic Universe to the table.
Antiis Comics will allow the reader to follow the entire Universe with just ONE published title and an online comic.
"Antiis Comics Presents..."
The idea is to build a Comic Universe slowly. Three Issue story arcs, "One Shots" and a FREE Web Comic. Through the title "Antiis Comics Presents", we will focus on larger stories and introduce key players in the Antiis Universe while the online web comic, "A.E.G.I.S.", will tell smaller stories and focus on what's happening around the published comics.
That brings us to our Kickstarter campaign, "Antiis Comics Presents #1-3: MIDKNIGHT". "MIDKNIGHT" will be the first three issue story arc of "PHASE ONE", to get the ball rolling. Introduced in 2007 through Red 5 Comics, the title was previously published gearing more towards a "kid friendly" crowd...
A fun book, but we'll be taking the story in a different direction...
We won't be dismissing the events in the previous story, but what we will be doing is taking it 10 years forward.
The world is becoming a different place and the life of Dr. David D'Ville (aka Midknight) is a lot harder then it was the last time we saw him. His wife, Assistant D.A Tarliyn D'Ville, is currently out of action as Midknight's partner in crime-fighting, Knightingale (Why? We'll save that for the book.). Their 15 year old daughter, Rowan, who does not know his secret, is on her way home from private school on Summer Break. And she will need to adjust to the new Nanny, Miss Carla. To top it off, Gordo the Clown, Children's TV show Host turned violent criminal, has escaped and is plotting revenge against the man who put him away and the city he protects.
As you can see, we're already hard at work on the artwork and the lettering will be underway soon. "Antiis Comics Presents #1-3: Midknight" is just the start of Antiis Comics: Phase One.
Antiis Comics Presents #1-3: Midknight is just the beginning of what Antiis Comics is trying to accomplish. The concept is not unlike another companies Movie Formula, which inspired us to go in this direction. After ACP #3, we switch gears and introduce the next Hero in the Antiis Universe, "m".
"m" tells the story of a "Cleaner". She is the best at what she does and there is no evidence she actually exists. Hiring her means one thing, the job gets done. But after a job goes wrong and she was betrayed, "m" decides it's time to do what's right... even if it costs her everything she's built.
Antiis Comics Presents #4: "m" is going to be our FIRST stretch goal and subsequent stretch goals will be for the additional books in Phase One.
Here's is a graphic to show you what we're looking to bring to you:
So how is the money being spent?
The goal we set is so we can put out the best product we can and launch strong. Here's how that money is being spent:
- High quality printing for the comics.
- A brand new web site to be able to present the "A.E.G.I.S." web comic
- Promotional items (Limited Edition Print, Posters, Postcards)
- Various shipping supplies/costs
- Compensation for the Artist's work/supplies (Boards, Inks, Etc)
The last one is very important. While Tom will be working for a flat rate on each book, Colorist Jeremiah Skipper and the Letterer will be paid per page. Antiis believes artists should be paid fairly for their work. Eventually we hope to expand, but until we can pay other artists and writers a fair wage for their efforts, we will be keeping the creative team small.

Risks and challenges
In a previous Kickstarter, Tom offered a lot of original commissions. It took far too long to complete those pieces. To eliminate that problem, for the exception of four individual pieces in the top four rewards, the original art will be pages from the comics.
NOTE: Kickstarter's launched by other people, with Tom as the artist may or may not still owe rewards. Tom was work for hire on those projects and has no control or involvement beyond his artwork. Please contact those projects directly for any further information.
We have also put details in the rewards explaining how they will be dispersed.
