I know, I know. Every kid loves dinosaurs, especially Velociraptors. But you can't begin to grasp the undying obsession my son has with them. For the better part of four years, I've been constantly inundated with facts, myths, and borderline compulsive tales of the Jurassic by my six year old.
Now, while I've dipped my toes into the proverbial pond known as children's books (see I Can't Stop Tooting: A Love Story) this is only my second attempt at creating a thought provoking and inspirational piece of children's literature.
Farts, Dinosaurs, I know I'm attacking hard-hitting topics here. You gotta go for what people dig though, right?
Anyway. My background in creating stories comes from the seven years I have been making comic books. I've written 15 books, self-published two, and successfully crowdfunded four of them. So I'm confident in my abilities to deliver a riveting, and only slightly immature, story.
While the majority of the material that I write is intended for adults, i thoroughly enjoy making kids (especially my own) laugh until they pee. I also possess a strong desire to instill a moral compass in each of my children that they will carry into adulthood, and I generally do that through my storytelling.
This book is no different.
Are there dinosaurs? Yes.
Is there humor? Duh.
But it's also about looking beyond the harsh words of your peers and seeing a person for who they truly are. For understanding that there will always be someone who has something negative to say about everyone, and that those harsh words probably don't tell you everything you need to know about someone.
The Great Raptor Captor is a full-color, hardcover book written by Garrett Gunn with art by Nicolas Touris and letters by Hde.
