Suckit was created in response to the lack of "ready to use" options that can effectively control the mess that using your X-Carve or Shapeoko 2 produces.
Over the past year I've been learning, experimenting and making parts using a Shapeoko 2, which I've now upgraded to an X-carve (highly recommend doing this by the way!) Although these desktop CNC's are awesome, and provide me with a quick, affordable way to produce samples and prototypes of my designs, they are messy! Very messy!
This mess is not only a nuisance, it can affect the quality of the parts being produced and shorten the life of your CNC.
Being new to desktop CNCing, I spent a lot of time researching ways to minimize or eliminate this problem and was shocked to find no acceptable ready to purchase product was available.
So, being a product designer, I got to work; designing, prototyping and refining my vision of what a dust boot should be. The result... Suckit! A dust boot like no other. It's very effective!
Suckit works independent of the Z axis. This allows the bristles to consistently surround the area being cut , better contains debris and dust and provides a better seal so the vacuum is much more effective.
Suckit does not reduce the Z axis travel, stays flat on the work piece at all times and is quick and easy to remove for bit changing.
Suckit is quick and easy to attached and requires no modifications to your machine. Simply insert the Bottom Mount. Insert each Rail into the Bottom Mount and tighten. Slide in the Support Arms and snap on the Top Mount.
Suckit easily adjusts to work with different X Carve spindles. Simply loosen the side screws, adjust the stop location and re-tighten.
I know there are a lot of "make it yourself" Dust Boots out there. Unfortunately, all suffer from one or more of the following problems. They either mount to the spindle, require you to modify or disassemble part of your machine or, what I found to be the biggest draw back, they need to be produced. This means finding a design, sourcing and purchasing the materials then, milling the parts and assembling. This is time consuming and while learning how to operate your machine, can be costly.
The goal of my Kickstarter campaign is to raise money so I can purchase tooling and inventory that can allow Suckit to sell for similar, or less, than what it would cost an individual to produce themselves. I also want to provide a great option for those that just want to get rocking and rolling making their own projects and have no interest in taking the time or effort that is required to create a Dust Boot.

Risks and challenges
As a former Director of Product Development for a publicly traded company and nearly 20 years of experience bringing new products to market, I know what it takes to deliver a great product on time. Many months have been spent on designing, developing, testing, and refining the design. The manufacturer has already been selected and the samples you see in the photos and videos work great, so there will be no need to waste time tweaking the design.
However, every project carries with it certain risks. The most common risks are potential delays in tooling, obtaining raw materials, packaging, and shipping. While I feel like I have reduced these variables as much as possible, they can never be completely eliminated.
I feel my experience and familiarity with the manufacturer and the product development process, gives me a unique skill set in handling unexpected problems.
