About this project
I am a classically trained composer of contemporary music based in the Boston area. For over 30 years, I've been composing works for chorus, solo voices, solo instruments, and chamber ensembles. This year, with the backing of Albany Records, I am working to bring out my second album. Entitled Compendium, it’s a selection of solo instrumental pieces, with the earliest work composed in 1984 and the most recent in late 2012.
I focus on creating challenging, modern, yet accessible works where audience, performer and composer can come together to experience music in a way that is meaningful and engaging. Recording these pieces has been a hugely rewarding project, as the works for this CD represent the evolution of a personal composing style, as well as a map to the musical relationships I’ve formed with teachers, colleagues, and collaborators, most of them here in Boston.
The CD features outstanding performances by local professional instrumentalists Jodi Hagen (violin), Timothy Macri (flute), Scott Nicholas (piano), and Todd Seeber (double bass). Through the album, we’ll be able to present this work to a broad audience of listeners, and showcase some of the amazing musical talent that Boston has to offer.
Recording is complete, but we need funds to help finish the mixing, mastering, and production of the album. Albany Records' support is in place and they will ensure the album is distributed internationally, is available for electronic download, and has the highest production value possible. They need $5000 to cover their costs, and the remaining funds will help to pay the recording and editing bills we’ve racked up. Risks and challenges
Pending funding, we are guaranteed that this project will move speedily along to completion. The recordings have been put "in the can" and edited, meaning the only remaining production task is the final mixing and mastering of the recording, scheduled for completion in early June. Albany Records has signed a letter of commitment to the project and estimates six weeks to completion of CD production once funding is in place. All the supporting materials have been compiled (liner notes, musician photos, and bios).
The biggest outstanding commitment will be fulfillment of the rewards piece--signing CDs and scores, preparing packets for mailing, and for those who are pledging sums of $1500 or more, the completion of the compositions. The estimated dates for fulfillment have been chosen to allow sufficient time for these deliverables.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
