MUSES is an innovative DTV modulator developing platform. It's Fully open sourced & easy to use. You'll be able to build your own digital TV broadcaster system by using MUSES development board and official resources.  It can be a great platform for any video distribution related application like DTV broadcastor, Media Sender. Of course, it's perfect device if you are a  DATV (digital amateur TV) player.

 WHAT IS THE MUSES

 

MUSES is the first modular modulator development board. The MUSES has the capability to generate many types of digital TV signal you like, which make the MUSES a perfect chassis for digital media transmitters. Maker can broadcast their media content to a Digital TV without any add-on receivers. The signal can be transmitted via coaxial cable or in the air.  With MUSES, build a personal DTV broadcaster is no longer a dream.  

MUSES's universal modulator development board supports  DVB-T/C, ATSC/QAM, DTMB and ISDB-T/TB DTV standards. The development board can be divided to three parts: Modulator board(MUSES-α、β), Video board, RF board. MUSES-α、β are the core of the MUSES.  MUSES-α is a modulation board with USB port, allows maker to stream contents to Digital TV via the USB port of the computer or other smart devices. MUSES-β is an Encoder Modulator board, allows maker to build their own standalone DTV broadcaster. Maker can put media contents into the built-in encoder of the MUSES-β, then the content will be instantly transform to digital TV signal and broadcast out.

The whole system is controlled by the extended microprocessor.  We have mcus to communicate with video, modulator and RF modules. You can use the embedded source code that we provided and follow the protocol to build the device.  MUSES can collocate with common microprocessors, such the STMicroelectronics and Nuvoton series MCU, or other MCUs with I2C.

 

 

 

MUSES FEATURES

In order to support the digital TV standard worldwide, we use Taiwanese company VATek’s modulator chips. VATek chips are the only solution that can support multi-formats modulation in single chip which we think is amazing! The supported formats include DVB-T/C, ATSC/QAM, DTMB and ISDB-T. In addition, the MUSES-β is using VATek's latest ENMODER chip B2, it has a MPEG-2 FHD and H.264 SD hardware encoder inside that small chip, and allow us to simplify the circuit design. For the users not familiar with hardware encoder or video interfaces. Don't worry, we have an toy for software developer. MUSES-α is a pure modulation module with USB & TS interface and it may be attached to PC or any other smart devices. Then you should be able to stream video to TV.

RESOURCES

In order to provide the friendly development environment, we prepare all the necessary resources, including the embedded source code, API, layout schematic and user manual.


 How to Use It

You can refer our documents and source code to porting the embedded code on your microprocessor, and the process is very simple. Our source code is based on C language, therefore, you can use our API to docking yours.

 

 

TURNKEY PRODUCT

If you want to use the end product directly, you could support our turnkey package based on STM32 solution. This is an excellent standalone device and control by the panel and button, it allows user adjustment encoder and modulator parameters. This product is prepared for the DTV amateurs and radio players, simple plug and play solution.

The modulator device not only use for the digital TV head-end equipment but the applications are very diverse. it also can be applied in live streaming, broadcaster and advertising.

 

How to Operate

When you use the MUSES-α development board, you can use our GUI tool to operate it on your computer, it goes through the USB interface and easy to use. If you choose the MUSES-β board, in addition the USB interface, you can use the embedded code to control it. The turnkey product is very easy to modify the values, it controls by button and LCD panel and you can follow our document to operate it.

Why Use It

The general modulator products are based on FPGA structure, or only support one digital TV format, that is not friendly for the developer and user. About shipping  

In order to maintain the stable quality, we chose Taiwan’s SMT manufacturer to produce the development board. But in the cost consideration, the product price doesn’t include the shipping, it needs additional charge.

Risks and challenges

MUSES development board has been verified completion. During these time, we will continue in the functional test and enhance stability.

So far, we solved all the problems we have encountered, and products have become completed. About the source code and API, they are provided from the chip vendor. In other words, you don’t need to worry about the resource issue, we will fully support and help you complete this product.
