A Haunted Existence is based on a true story. In 1953 a 17 year old man was a travelling on a train from Exeter to Bristol, and when he made advances at a plain clothed railway officer, he was taken off the train, arrested and questioned.
This led to a chain of investigations and outcomes which lies at the heart of Tom’s new piece of work but speaks more widely about life in England before the sexual offences act came into place in 1967.
Tom will also explore the impact of generations of persecution and fear experienced by the LGBTQ community and whether that collective trauma has continued to be passed on.
The Show: The show will have a run of 8 nights at Bristol’s The Island, the city's former Police Station. The shows will take place in early September 2018.
Tom is keen to work and collaborate with a Creative Technologist or Designer, to find innovative exciting and more immersive ways to tell the story and that is what we are hoping to raise money for, through Kickstarter.
We believe the story to be important, timely and apt and adding other exciting elements to the work, will allow us to engage with a wider audience and highlight just how recently homosexuals were persecuted and discriminated against in the UK, simply because they chose to sleep with someone of the same sex as themselves.
