Drastic changes on the game, new abilities, characters & lot of indies!

Hello humans! We've taken some time to release an update because we have made significant changes to the game and need to be clear about the direction we wanted to take with Paradise Lost. We've received a lot of feedback from the community and backers, concerned because the game is too focused on stealth & puzzle solving, and that might be tedious and boring at the end... SO we've taken into account your opinions and decided to drastically change the look and style of PLFC.

This is a quick preview of how the game will look further on, changing the pillars of the adventure into an action focused game. We have completely redesigned the look of Subject W, giving it some kind of space marine look and allowing the use of fire weapons, with the sole objective of destroying the facility and all mankind.

No more hiding. No more running. Green takes over.

Bazinga! Okay, it's time to calm down (if some of you have been busted) this is just an april fools' joke. The game follows its development as always, just wanted to have a few laughs with you. Now let's talk about some real features that we made :D

Plants can fly too

We love the way that nature develops their own subsistence mechanisms, inspiring us to create new skills for the plant. One of these fantastic abilities are the whirlybirds of the maple trees. The shape of these seeds favors dissemination, spinning in the air as they fall. We have taken this concept to create the double jump that you can see in this video.

Acid burn

Characters are fundamental on Paradise Lost, and our writer continues to add new members to the cast of the game, providing a greater depth and complexity to the story. Here's a quick sketch of Acid, one of the lieutenants of Ash that leads the extermination squad. You can also see how it looks in pixels.

This are some of the things that we're making right now. Also, here's a selection of indies and surprises about Subject W... Keep reading ;)

Indies, indies everywhere!

This month we want to help more projects that catch our attention and one that will include our lovely W as a character! Check it out:

Hex Heroes

Hex Heroes is a real time strategy game up to 4 players for Wii U that offers asymmetric gameplay using the unique features of the console. Gamepad players can manage decisions and have an overhead view of the map. The other pals choose different classes that will give them special abilities, going directly onto action with an individual point of view, in order to build up their cities, explore new territories, and confront enemies.

The game will also include funny figurines of other indie games such as Juan from Guacamelee or Shovel Knight. One of those characters will be none other than our beloved Subject W, and we can't wait to see it's final look! Meanwhile, here's a mockup of W's made by our colleagues at Prismatic. It looks adorable!

Kodama

We are lovers of handmade animations, and Kodama is one of those beautiful and unique projects full of them. The game is a 2D hand painted, physics based Platformer set in Japans Genroku Period and tells the story of a tree spirit who finds his mountain forest in danger. Players must run, jump, climb, push, pull, and swing in order to traverse several unique and challenging environments. Looks promising.

Btw, plant characters are taking the game scene! :D

Dead Synchronicity: Tomorrow comes Today

Our fellow Spanish comrades from Fictiorama studios are making a classic point and click adventure with a unique expressionist style and a dark, dystopian atmosphere. The player will have to help Michael, a man with no past, recover his identity and decode the events that brought the world to the edge of collapse. As creators said: "Guybrush meets Mad Max meets 12 Monkeys"... perfect combo!

You can give it a try playing the demo here.

Ashen Rift

Ashen Rift presents itself as a new take on classic shooters. The game is a first person survival horror game that places you and your canine companion Bounder in a barely recognizable Earth which has been twisted and drained of almost all life. Together you seek to stop the remaining life from hemorrhaging Earth by disabling the "Rift" rumored to be the cause.

A devastated atmosphere + game mechanics where ammo and guns sparse, forcing the player to find new methods of surviving hostile encounters makes this a winner.

Red Goddess

Another friends from our country are Yanim studios, developers of this colorful adventure. Divine, the teen goddess, is losing her powers and needs to recover them. The action takes place in her subconscious: a planet full of caves, mountains, rivers and inhabitants, friends and enemies… All of them form part of her past life.

The game have a demo so you can try it by yourself. Download it here  ;)

Ravings of love & death

People cannot live on indie games alone, so this time we wanted to show you something different. Ravings of love & death is the poetic title of an anthology dedicated to Edgar Allan Poe lovers, gathering the most significant love and death stories of the writer. Meticulously illustrated by David G. Forés over the last two years this is a publication where text, images and an original soundtrack immerse you into its story.

This edition will be able only through Kickstarter and have 15 days to go. What are you waiting to go for it?

Also, don't miss this funny piece of art that David made for us. Hope you like it as much as we do.

And that's all for now. Don't miss those fantastic projects and remember to follow Asthree Works on Twitter for more things about the developing process.

See you!

I know this is super late. But you got me. Anyway, "Kill everything space marine mode" would be a pretty sweet Easter egg.

    2. Creator Shinigami Panda on April 10, 2014

ill give you 100 dollars in the mail if you actually make that part of the game

    3. Creator saluk on April 6, 2014

You evil evil people. I always let my kickstarter emails languish in a special folder in my email that I only check periodically. Reading the top of this update had me fuming.

    5. Creator S. Poulin on April 2, 2014

Hey, I like the flying, but I don't really love the leaves that come out when W flies. Not to make me seem extra nice so that you guys take my advice, but I am really excited for this game! Looks amazing!

    6. Creator Tim Bradford on April 2, 2014

Because I work the night shift, I forgot it was April Fools day. Had me for a few seconds, lol.

      Die you punks humans!!! XD

    8. Creator Ponkool4 on April 1, 2014

Annihilation mode would be an awesome alternate game mode! I'm looking forward to Hex Heroes, I hope it gets funded.

Nice joke, and will love to see a extra option in the future with that too

    10. Creator DeafTard on April 1, 2014

omg this is amazing update!!! Now you know what you have to do! You have to make Annihilation game become the official spin off in the future. Look at Far cry 3: blood dragon, such an amazingly fun yet awesome spin off game. seriously this is like one of the best updates on paradise lost since the project reached the main goal.

    11. Creator Stephen "Stoibs" D on April 1, 2014

Bah, dam American sites and groups putting their april fools 'pranks' out on April 2nd for some of us in our time zones which are ahead of you -_-

    17. Creator Sir Jordi on April 1, 2014

      pheww
I was startig to worry ^_^!

    18. Creator Shevai Asan on April 1, 2014

I'm not gonna lie, I think that April Fool's version of W is pretty bad-ass looking. Make that an "alternate reality" version, like a "What if.." scenario as DLC or expansion later, where instead of being the cute little weed that he is, actually took over a hulking guard and just decided to go all-out as a walking war-machine.

It could be like a "See how long you can survive and what all you can do before you get taken down" scenario. Less problem solving, more brute force and killing sprees.

      BE THE TERROR!

    19. Creator faust_33 on April 1, 2014

      Ohhhhh, you got me!!!!

    20. Creator JD on April 1, 2014

Haha I was about to say "Gimme my money back you decedents of Judas!!," good one fellas.

Could we get an update on the Paypal funds? Have other stretch goals been met?

    21. Creator Marty McFly on April 1, 2014

Huh wait! I'm all in for a 'green' mode like this! Any chance that this will make its way to the release?!

    22. Creator Julien Rodriguez on April 1, 2014

Any chance of a enemy like this or a dlc to play with this idea.

    23. Creator Octopus_Pancake on April 1, 2014

      Metroidvania... NAO O_O!!!! *raises pitchfork*

      or no

    24. Creator Porcupine on April 1, 2014

For about five seconds you had me reaching for my torch and pitchfork (and the dual-wielded chainsaws and the machete collection and... nonono wait there's nothing interesting in that closet!) Well played!

    25. Creator Sleet on April 1, 2014

I was hoping a Kickstarter would pull something like this. Great job, guys, the art was awesome and I'm amazed how many people you caught off guard!

On another note, Acid looks amazing, both pixelated and sketched! Will all of the major characters have art like that, and will we be able to see them in game? (a gallery for those sketches would be an awesome unlockable, hinthint)

    26. Creator Austin48 on April 1, 2014

Dam it's April fools, I seriously was done after reading the "joke". Other bad news from other projects today had me really down and then this Annihilation thing. Sigh, you guys got me good, like real good.

    27. Creator LuckyLuigi on April 1, 2014

I can't believe it but I totally fell for it. Well played, sir, well played :)

    28. Creator João Pedro Miguel Messias on April 1, 2014

damn that was a good one x) also, I think there should be at least one level where we could go all RamboW and kick security guards asses with a machine gun! Like an extra level in the end or something, 'cause that really gave me the chills! Glad to see everything's going according to plan =D

    29. Creator Matthew Haws on April 1, 2014

(I deeply apologize if anyone remotely took my comment offensive, which I then whole heartily regret saying that. It was intended as a joke. Sorry if it doesn't sound like it. :D)

    30. Creator Matthew Haws on April 1, 2014

Well played. For a second, I was slightly disappointed how it'd be more action-oriented, since I DID back a stealth game, after all. And I definitely have my eye on Hex Heroes for sure. Happy April Fools, you genius basturds! ;D

    31. Creator Heather Park on April 1, 2014

Hahaha, ok you guys totally got me :) It's first thing in the morning, just got into work, sipping my coffee and leisurely checking my email when.. WHATS THIS NOW?! I didn't remember it was april fools until I scrolled down :|

      Well played ;)

    34. Creator LT on April 1, 2014

That is literally the most beautiful double-jump animation I've seen since Charlotte's broom or Alucard's cape-wings.

    35. Creator Ahmed Shaltout on April 1, 2014

That screenshot looked awesome though. I didnt hate it. I was worried the other backers get shocked but I love both stealth/puzzle and action. I was like 'lol awesome but risky!' whoever made that screenshot was reeaaally into it. Lol

    36. Creator Jacob Begley on April 1, 2014

Doesnt april fools run out by mid day?
