The Pebble & the Boy is a modern day road movie on Mod Scooters!
WHY AM I MAKING THIS FILM? I'm a film director, I love Paul Weller's music and I love films. And it was after meeting Paul after a gig in Cork where the idea of combining the two started to take shape. I'm not making a homage to Paul with The Pebble & the Boy, I'm making a film inspired by him, the messages I took from his lyrics and the music I have been influenced by since the age of 13. Paul Weller was one of my main inspirations when I started to write scripts. Songs like That's Entertainment, Eton Rifles, Little Boy Soldiers, My ever changing moods, English Rose, so lyrically and melodically exquisite and just...well...brilliant!
On the plane home from Cork, an idea started to form, about a teenager called John who is devastated by the death of his father, a seemingly simple postman who delivered his letters on a classic Lambretta, and how John seeks to honour him by scattering his ashes into the sea at Brighton, spiritual home of the Mod's.
It's a scooter run of discovery as John learns more about his father than he ever did when he was alive. He finds out that his dad was a Mod of distinction, a political activist, a face among the Mod's of his generation and a man to be reckoned with. But when he arrives in Brighton John also discovers a shocking family secret that has been buried for years.
So, where does Kickstarter come in, and what am I trying to do? We want to make The Pebble & the Boy the best film it can possibly be. And we're off to an amazing start as Paul Weller has read the outline of the story and given it his support. And with support from the guys at Kickstarter in NYC, Shooting People and fans of Paul, The Jam & The Style Council, Mods and Scooter lovers, friends & family and film fans from around the world I'm now looking to take the project to the next stage by shooting a short promo film to show how amazing the finished feature film will be.
How will the money be used? All the money raised will go towards making the best film we possibly can and will be spent on hiring camera and lighting equipment, insurance, locations, make up SFX, catering, post production and that all important music. We will use your money wisely, to ensure that the end result is a stunning film that YOU will want to watch and be proud to be a part of. This isn't my film, it is OUR film and it is my duty to ensure that you get value for money.

Risks and challenges
It's going to be a tough shoot, cramming an enormous amount of story into 3 days over several locations. We're going to be filming people riding scooters, it's going to be risky and a big challenge, we will ensure that we're insured to the hilt for all our cast and crew. With the team we will be assembling I'm confident that we can overcome everything that comes our way...Even the Great British weather!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
