About this project
What I need money for...
We want to complete penciling, inking, color and lettering for the first issue of MYOPIA. If we are able to raise the money quickly, we might be able to move onto the next three issues and complete the entire graphic novel!
Who I am...
My name is Rich Dent. I'm the writer and creator of MYOPIA. Paul Lucas of Janklow and Nesbit Associates represents MYOPIA for publishing, film and television.
What is MYOPIA about?
MYOPIA is a character driven, science fiction thriller about a genetically altered man who wants to save a world corrupted by complacency. MYOPIA is also a love story, a story about the limits of earth's resources and an amalgamation of prose and art.
How did MYOPIA come about?
After spending many years writing poetry, I decided to write a story out of my comfort zone and in a genre that I loved (science fiction) but never thought I would be good at. I initially wrote the story as a screenplay, which placed as a finalist in the Francis Ford Coppola Screenwriting Competition and the Austin Film Festival Screenwriting Competition. During the submission process I saw a competition which offered a grand prize of turning a screenplay into a graphic novel. I didn't have to think about it another second. I knew MYOPIA would be a great graphic novel. I used the award-winning screenplay and pitch pages to find a literary agent and not long after MYOPIA was sold to a publisher as a graphic novel.
What will the book look like when it's complete?
Awesome, but if you're not convinced here are a few sample pages of what it will look like without lettering:
What kind of rewards will you be offering?
I reached out to many of the writers who inspired me over the years as well as friends and organizations I thought best reflected the spirit of MYOPIA and was met with an overwhelming amount of support. Risks and challenges
Because we have so much of MYOPIA finished and a team already in place working on the project, there aren't any anticipated snags in completing what we set out to do. In fact all of the rewards have already been donated and once we're done producing the first issue (or issues) we'll send everything right out to you, probably much sooner than our anticipated shipping date of 02/01/2016.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
