ReadOUT, ACTout is a theatrical performance based on five commonly challenged children's books that feature alternative families and gender expressions. This production will not only draw attention to banned books week and the right to read, but will also serve to educate the University of Arizona campus about LGBTQ issues and help prevent bullying of those who are different.
The following books may be included to be read aloud as the actors perform:
-And Tango Makes Three by Justin Richardson (in both English and Spanish)
-The Sissy Duckling by Harvey Fierstein
-The Different Dragon by Jennifer Bryan
-My Princess Boy by Cheryl Kilodavis
-Heather Has Two Mommies by Leslea Newman
This production is in honor of Banned Books Week 2011.

The entire estimated budget is close about $5000. We anticipate receiving a grant in the amount of between $1500-$2500 to buy costumes/props, but we won't find out until Sept 6! The money raised here is needed for marketing materials (approx $675 for fliers, banners, and posters) and labor costs ($400 stipend for show director). Any money raised in addition to the $1000 goal will go towards food costs (approx $2300) in order to take the burden off of our co-sponsors. Thanks so much for your support!
