Tiny Trees is a competitive tree-growing game for 2-4 players where you play as a nature spirit trying to become the next Demigod of Trees! Unlike most board games that lie flat, the trees you grow branch out of your table and into the third dimension! Whether you want to relax and freely grow a tree or focus on the deep-rooted strategy to earn the Favor of the nature gods, you'll be creating something you can be proud of from the moment you open the box.
Tiny Trees is a project of hundreds of hours of work, many sleepless nights, and countless tree puns. We constructed our first prototype of the game during our first semester of college. Since then, it has been in development for almost a year! We have always wanted to be a part of the game industry, and this project means so much to us as our first public-facing product. We love this game dearly, and are excited to share it with you!
- 42 Hand-Illustrated Hexagonal Cards with three unique Bark types and multiple branch pathways that allow for over 58 QUINTILLION possible combinations — a quantity larger than the number of trees ON EARTH! (Yes, we did the math!)
- 8 Different Blessings give 28 unique combinations to strategically change the game every time you play! These blessings can alter the rules of the game and allow players to take different actions under the right circumstances.
Unique Trees with every play session! Whether you grow tall, short, wide or thin, any tree is possible in Tiny Trees!
- Competitive but not Adversarial!
Even though Tiny Trees is a competitive game, it does not pit players directly against each other. We wanted to create an environment where players wouldn't have to worry about others sabotaging or ruining their creations.
- Fantastic for all Play Styles!
Tiny Trees is suitable for players of all ages. Whether you want to focus more on the strategic elements or just sit back and enjoy growing your tree, the game supports it all! No matter the play style, every player will be proud of what they create.
The last Demigod of Trees recently fell prey to the enticements of power from Maion, the God of Decay. With the position now vacant, Fisaven (pronounced Fiss-ay-vin), the God of Growth, is looking for a nature spirit to fill the role.
You, as well as many others, are vying for this position. To prove that you are the most worthy, scavenge for Branchlets to grow a tree better than the rest. Earn the Favor of Fisaven and the Blessings of the other Demigods in order to become the Demigod of Trees!
To start the game, the tallest player (as they are the most like a tree) goes first. Players then take turns picking up the top Branchlet from one of three Branchlet piles or a Flower to add to your tree. There are three types of Branchlets: Maple, Cherry Blossom, and Laurel.
These play a large role when scoring your tree, but you can mix and match these types to grow whatever you like! The game ends when two of the Branchlet piles run out, or one pile and all of the Flowers run out.
At the end of the game, players count how much Favor their tree is worth. There are three ways to earn Favor: Branches, Lifeforms, and Blessings.
Branches are created by growing Flowers on your tree and tracing the path down from the Flower to the trunk. You earn Favor for the number of the most occurring bark type along that path.
The next way to earn Favor is through Lifeforms. These are found on the Branchlets themselves and earn Favor no matter where they are on your tree. There are three types of Lifeforms: Birds, Mushrooms, and Beetles.
The more you collect of a single type of Lifeform, the more Favor they are worth. For example, if you only have 1 Beetle, it is only worth 1 point. However, if you collect every beetle (6 in total), each is worth 2 points, earning a total of 12 Favor.
Finally, there are Blessings. These come from the other Demigods that give recommendations to Fisaven, the God of Growth. Blessings add another layer of depth and complexity to the game, and can turn play sessions into strategic endeavors. For instance, the Blessing of Alahel (shown below), favors players who have as few Lifeforms as possible. By following their requirements, you can earn additional Favor.
Branches, Lifeforms, and Blessings give players strategic variance in how challenging the game can be. Beginners are recommended to start with just Branches, but feel free to go with all three to push your mind to the test! Tiny Trees gives the player control over how they want to grow.
Extra copies include ALL stretch goals, and will be shipped together to a single address!
Stretch goals come into play after the initial funding goal has been met and allow us to further refine Tiny Trees!
The core difference between the two versions of Tiny Trees is the material of the 42 hexagonal cards. In the Regular version, the hexes are made out of the same material as playing cards, while the Deluxe version features laser cut cardboard!
In the Regular version, players will have to consider the impact of gravity on their trees as the cards may shift if too much weight is placed on one side. This adds an additional factor players must keep in mind when growing their trees.
The Deluxe version of Tiny Trees comes with the card slots already cut out while players will have to hand cut the slots on the Regular version. The Deluxe version will also be packaged in a larger box than the Regular version. Both versions provide players with enjoyable tree-growing experiences!
Both versions of Tiny Trees are durable and have been thoroughly tested and showcased multiple times. All of our prototypes are in good condition even after being in the hands of hundreds of people! As long as you don't abuse the pieces, they will last a long time.
We are truly humbled by your support and are pushing every dollar in order to make Tiny Trees possible: 90% of all contributions go directly to the project.
We have partnered with The Game Crafter to manufacture copies and fulfill orders for Tiny Trees. Any amount over our funding goal will be directed to our stretch goals in order to produce more copies and further perfect Tiny Trees!
Tiny Trees started as Michael's personal project "TreeFall", a 2 vs 2 tabletop game where players stacked wooden blocks to build "trees" of a certain height. While he wasn't satisfied with the game, he enjoyed the nature theme and the creativity players explored while growing their forest. Keeping those two components, Michael reinvented "TreeFall" with hexagonal cards and additional strategic elements to create Tiny Trees! Joanna joined the team early on in the development cycle and is the sole artist for the game. She has spent innumerable hours bringing the whimsical world of Tiny Trees to life! Our third teammate, Simon, had to leave the process halfway through, but he had a large impact on the game's development and growth.
As a team, we all love nature and have spent many weeks world-building, learning about ecology, and showing each other spectacular park photos. We have playtested and reiterated Tiny Trees over 70 times and showcased the game at conventions across the United States.
This project has grown from many hours of work, sleepless nights and the dreams of three young developers passionate about nature. We hope that you end up as proud of your trees as we are of this game.
From all of us on the Tiny Team behind Tiny Trees, thank you!
