High Fidelity - An Art Book
In 2010 I created what would become the first print in the long running print series "High Fidelity" for Gallery 1988's world famous annual "Crazy 4 Cult" gallery show. While looking for inspiration I took a trip to Disneyland and while riding "It's a Small World" an idea came to me... What if I recreated a vintage style children's vinyl record cover based off of one of my favorite TV shows. That's the inspiration behind "River Tam & The Fireflies", the print that kicked off what would become the "High Fidelity" series.
I had always been a fan of the old Disney records from my childhood and this idea felt like a perfect melding of old and new. Over the years I have turned some of my favorite movies, television shows and video games into vintage vinyl record album art and now, with your help, I hope to bring all of that artwork together in one book collecting the entire series...
This project is to fund a full-color 90+ page book collecting every print from my "High Fidelity" series that I first started in 2010. But I can't do it alone, I need your help. Each page will feature full page, full color artwork, and bring the whole print series together for the first time in one collection.
My artwork has been shared online by quite a few websites like Reddit, Nerdist, Buzzfeed, Slashfilm, io9, FunnyOrDie, and many more. My work with Gallery 1988 in Hollywood has allowed me the opportunity to meet some of those whose work has inspired me over the years. Some of them own some of the framed albums that I make for gallery shows!
Some High Fidelity Fans!
Attention International Backers:
A brief note on international shipping. With my previous Kickstarter I learned quite a bit, and one of the big lessons I learned from that project is that international shipping can get VERY expensive. These costs are reflected in the shipping rates for international backers. I'm sorry if that's a deal-breaker for some international fans, I completely understand, and I want to be upfront and honest about prices. It's an unfortunate situation, but these are the prices I arrived at based on size/weight of the items being shipped.
The response to my first Kickstarter "Storytime - a Little Artbook" was overwhelming. Since shipping that project to backers, i've met a lot of them at various conventions around the country, they were all so pleased with how that book came out, most asked if I was planning to put a book together for my "High Fidelity" series. Kickstarter provides the freedom and flexibility to make the book that we want. I had such a great experience with my first Kickstarter, that it was a no-brainer to come back again. I hope you'll join me on this project.
The funding goal for this Kickstarter covers the expenses of the entire project. This covers the printing of the book, and having it shipped from the printer overseas to my home Los Angeles. It also covers the cost of printing the rewards, Kickstarter fees, payment processing fees, shipping supplies, and a little bit extra for any miscellaneous costs that I may encounter a long the way. My wife is a spreadsheet wizard and she worked out all of the details we could possibly plan for and forecast some estimated costs based on our previous project.
Together, we can make this happen! Thanks for stopping by and THANK YOU for your support!
Risks and challenges
The risks and challenges for this project are pretty low. This is my second Kickstarter book project, and I learned quite a bit from that first Kickstarter, so this one should be even smoother. The artwork in the book has already been created, the book is designed, laid-out, and is ready to be sent to the printer. All of the work on the book is complete, and almost all of the rewards are ready to go (except the commissioned pieces for obvious reasons). It just needs your help to be printed.
The rewards for this Kickstarter will be shipped with the book. Outside of the higher-tier commissions, all of the reward artwork is already created. Packaging and shipping of the finished book along with rewards will be handled directly by myself along with some friends and family helping out. Providing there's no issues with the book manufacturing/shipping, my goal is to have the book and rewards in backers hands in by the end of 2017. It is the holiday season, and the post office can move a little slower during that time, but my hope is that the books will arrive on time. Just in case things move a little slower, I posted the reward delivery dates as January 2018. international orders may take a little longer due to customs and overseas shipping.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
