Thank you so much for your support! We're making remarkable traction on Kickstarter thanks to you. It's not easy running a game Kickstarter with a free game, but you're proving to us and the world that it can be done. Did you know that if we hit our funding goal, we'll be among the top 30 mobile game projects on Kickstarter ever to do so for our target? Learn more in this article about mobile projects on Kickstarter.

What's it like to run a game on Kickstarter?

If you're curious to know what it's been like for Kelly and I so far, this video I've put together for our YouTube, GameDevChats - a show about making it in the games industry - is a must watch.

Social Goals Update - The Lizards are almost here!

We've updated our Social Goals, setting new objectives appropriate to our current audience and updated our progress to reflect all of the contributions you have made in helping us grow our community. 3 of 4 goals hit, just 1 more to go to unlock the Lizard race! A special shout out to LordGek who we watched in real-time go down the list hitting each social objective. He clearly wants his lizards! I don't blame him, they are pretty awesome.

So many goals are in close reach. One goal in particular that would really up us out is a post/shout out in a game community website. We've got 2 so far, one on BoardGameGeek and one on RPG Codex. If you belong to these communities, join our discussions there:

Important: While this isn't yet on our Social Goals, one super important thing you can do to help us is to up vote this post we just made today on Imgur. If we get enough votes to reach page 1, we could likely have our project fully funded today.

Designing with Players to Create Innovation

When I sought to build Summoners Fate, I was aiming to create a tactics game that works on mobile. There’s a small group of gamers out there, I reasoned, that, like myself, struggle with the level of attention demanded in deeply complex turn-based games. It’s not that we don’t love the classic mechanics, it’s that life now presents so many distractions that a period of undivided attention any longer than about 3 minutes is rare to come by.

I had some cool ideas on how to do this, but it wasn't until I reached out to a small group of Hero Mages players and started playtesting and discussing with them that we really started creating new innovations - things that had never been done in a tactics game before.

A breakthrough in one of our core mechanics, the one-gesture command system, was actually suggested by Antoine (Scribe) an avid Hero Mages fan who was concerned that my initially oversimplified one-touch system took away control from the player that's desired for tactics.

It's collaborations like these that I believe make our community truly special. To read the full story about how this discussion led to 3 unique tactical combat innovations, never before seen in the genre, check out our IndieDB article here.

I am committed to involving each of you in the process of making Summoners Fate. Thank you for your support. Let me know your thoughts in the comments!

Another Awesome Kickstarter Project

I'd like to take a moment now to share another indie developer project, one I've personally supported and believe in. Fell Seal is a turn-based tactical JRPG inspired by games like Final Fantasy Tactics. Like us, they're a husband and wife team and also ex-EA developers. They've provided a lot of support to us sharing what they've learned from their Kickstarter.

Fell Seal is just days away from ending and needs that last push to fund it. Check out there project here.
