Hey Guys! FALLEN CARDS wants to welcome you to our kickstarter page!
The project is to create a 20 minute short film (short pilot episode) and trailer that will be used to pitch to networks.
We want to bring you, and networks, the highest quality project that we can, and to do that, we need your help. Sure, we could shoot this on a very tight budget, but in all honesty, we wouldn’t be happy with the overall outlook and nor would you, our audience. We are going to shoot a short film, 20 minutes, as an abbreviated 1 hour Pilot and then cut a trailer for networks to view.
Because of this and the nature of the final product, all DVDS and Digital Downloads will be exclusive ONLY to Kickstarter backers, as the final product will not be distributed for resale. Therefore, if this show gets picked up, every single backer will have a collectors item of the shows very beginnings!
We plan to package the entire project for our showrunner, but it costs money to put all of the elements together. This includes our pilot, our trailer, and promotional posters and materials. Very much like film festivals, we hit the big dogs first, the big networks, but we also have strong interest from web channels also interested in seeing a visual representation of our concept. We want to blow everyone away and give the vision 100% actualization as we strongly believe, as does our Showrunner, in this project, and its potential to hit big markets.
We are a small group of independent film makers who have some really strong connections in the industry here in Los Angeles. We all have a passion for magic and filmmaking. Our goal is to bring this project to fruition, which has been in development now for four years.
Rich Manley has been actively involved in the Magic community as a performer and member of the Magic Castle in Hollywood. He has acted in a number of films, published a novel titled "Acre Beyond The Rye", and also holds three black belts, and has trained with the shaolin monks in Chan buddhism and martial arts.
Kristina Ellery is an extremely gifted Special fx makeup artist and actress. She has appeared in "Ted" staring Mark Whalberg and Mila Kunis. She has won numerous contests and awards for her special fx Makeup work, and has performed as a magicians assistant. Kristina has strong connections to amazing players in the film industry.
We are on an incredibly tight budget already in regards to the scope of the project. In essence, we are building an entire world that doesn’t exist and that doesn’t come cheap. We also are using one of the best fight choreographers and weapons and props fabricators in the business, as well as having costumes created and rented for the futuristic period (and lets not forget the Magicians and magic we need to create). Lets break it down to make it easier for you to understand where the money is going.
Costs of Production
Pre Production Costs: $10,000
Locations: Shooting in Los Angeles can be difficult and expensive. We have found some incredible locations for this project that will bring this imaginary world to life.
Permits & Insurance: Everyone loves insurance, right? Unfortunately, we need it to rent props, shoot on certain locations, and to rent all of our equipment.
Legal fees: We believe this is self explanatory
Prop Construction And Set Design
Magic Supplies and Custom Made Cards Exclusive To Show!
Production Costs: $20,000
Crew: We need to hire on a full crew that are capable of pulling off a project of this caliber.
Makeup: A lot of makeup is going to be used with such an diverse cast. Plus, we have a lot of blood work a there are fight sequences.
Equipment: We are using one of the best cameras presently on the market as well as acquiring a large 3-5 ton truck filled with the proper film equipment we deem necessary to shoot this project.
Costumes: These costumes will all be individually designed and specifically created for this project.
Stunts & Practical FX: There is a good amount of stunts in the overall project and we want to be safe as we can. We are hiring one of the best in the business. (He taught Harrison Ford to use that whip again in Indiana Jones 4.)
Food, glorious food: Hot sausage and mustard….Sorry, got a bit carried away there. We need to feed an entire cast and crew which can definitely drive up the costs. Working 8-12 hour days is grueling, and we want to make sure our crew is a happy and well taken care of crew.
Post Production Costs: $15,000
VFX: A BIG chunk of our budget is going to VFX. Creating and entire world unfortunately does not come cheap. Our VFX team will be spending a solid month on creating outstanding visuals that you guys will love.
Editing: The actual picture editing will be finished within three weeks.
Original Sound Score: Original music to compliment the overall feel of the project
Sound Mixing and Sound Editing: Create a perfect sound mix that is professionally done.
Packaging for Networks and other Media: We plan to package the entire project for our showrunner, but it costs money to put all of the elements together. This includes our trailer, our short, and promotional posters and materials. Very much like film festivals, we hit the big dogs first, the big networks, but we also have bites from web channels also interested in seeing a visual representation of our concept. We want to blow everyone away and give the vision 100% actualization as we strongly believe, as does our Showrunner, in this project, and its potential to hit big markets.
From the very beginning, I knew that I would want the best magicians to be a part of this project. One thing that I have always made a point to do is to stay true to the integrity of the art. When I was a young lad, my grandfather showed me my very first card trick. He taught me that magic takes time, practice, and diligence. I heeded his advice and practiced the sleights with my little hands, that could barely grasp the massive set of standard Bicycle Cards, until I developed a "presentable" amount of skill. It taught me a valuable lesson, one I would not neglect when writing this series. I wanted magic to be represented as pure as I could make it without overdoing the special effects and CGI.
Although there is a lot more to the story than the magic aspect, I wanted to include and showcase all respects of magic from the cardists, flourishers, sleight of hand guys, traditionalists, walkaround magic, stage magic, parlor magic, close up magic, street magic, and mentalism. There have been many films about magic with actors portraying magicians, but poorly performing the art. We wanted to change that and make sure that our actors were also professional magicians. In this way, we could guarantee that the magic displayed would be authentic and rich and true to its form. So, keeping this in mind, we have brought on the following magicians who are experts at their craft.
Dan and Dave Buck

He has been the featured magician at annual magic conventions and appeared on the cover of magic-related journals and periodicals including Genii and the Mandala.
Morgan is viewed as one of the world's leading experts and performers in the field of PsychoKinetic magic, also known as PK. Using the power of the mind, PK is the ability to physically alter or affect various objects.Morgan uses this extraordinary "gift" to bend forks, coins, and keys, as well as force items to move without logical explanation. Morgan has become one of the most sought after performers in the world. Morgan has performed on (5) five continents in front of millions of people live, and been on television in (75) Seventy five countries.
Howard Hamburg has been described as "The greatest magician you've never heard of" by the magic community. He is an underground card magician with over 60 years experience in magic and card work. He was also a very close friend of the late Dai Vernon.
Fallen Cards takes place in a post apocalyptic world in the year 2200; resurrected by greed and the foul desire to create a new world order under tyranny and false pretenses. In this new world, where most of the earth is a barren wasteland from the Great War (a nuclear catastrophe that occurred in the year 2025), the earth now houses scarce desert settlements and cities that have been humanity's last attempt at rebuilding civilization, some more advanced than others. There is ‘The Outlands’, the desert scape home to a plethora of dune shaped sand huts and villages able to support life. Then, there is ‘Harbor City’, the mecca for humanity, but also the capital for greed and corruption. It is a Vegas style town erected upon the principles of steam as a source of energy and fashioned under gears and cogs. Byron Chambers runs this city, consuming the people in the entertainment and casino life he provides. Finally, there is the dark town of ‘Osiris’, deep in ‘The Outlands’, inhabited by a covenant of religious followers, treacherously buried in a cove of dwindling forestry and bramble. It’s an old fashioned ghost city rebuilt by Frederick Polk, the people's Guru and mystical dictator whose words could move the desert sands in fear.
Tommy Blades, is a young, aspiring magician who travels to Harbor city after the mysterious disappearance of his father and the murder of his mother. He quickly attains fame and climbs the ladder of Casinos to become the city's leading act. He combines his unique style of magic with the sword work he learned from a wandering desert warrior on his travels to the city. However, strange instances begin to occur in Tommy’s life, and he soon realizes that his well developed talents are nothing compared to a hidden power he harbors. A potential that would have the leaders of the earth seeking him out for the source of his incredible gift.

Custom Deck Designed by Lance T. Miller!!!
Lance created a deck design specifically for the show. It is representative of an ancient Artifact that pre-dates time. Alien in nature. It is a script that was the doctrine to the stars and to our existence. The ancient sumerians, and similar cultures, transcoded the knowledge of the gods in this design as proof to our origins. In Fallen Cards, the nature of the material contained in this deck could change the course of humanity for better or for worse.
The deck is a very powerful symbol in the show, handed down to Tommy Blades by his father, a magician and Archeologist. The whereabouts to the discovery of the deck remain a mystery to Tommy, as do the strange symbols and markings on the deck that appear to be from another time and another place.
DAN AND DAVE BUCK are in talks with the production to distribute Lances fantastic deck! Their trademark style and superior craftsmanship of playing cards is a perfect fit for Lances design. The deck will be available as a limited collectors item ONLY to our kickstarter backers. Once the funding period is over, the decks will be rare and hard to come by. They will not be sold after the campaign is finished.
As of now, Lance has offered to reveal the uncolored version of the back design. The face designs and coloring will be revealed at a later date. The deck is meant to look worn, cracked rugged, as if it has been around for ages and beyond.
Available pledge levels include SIGNED DECKS by Lance, NON-SIGNED DECKS, and UNCUT SHEETS!
This is ONLY a back design that is uncolored at the moment. ONLY AVAILABLE to backers of the project will be updates to the process of coloring, the revelation of the faces of the deck, and the whole evolution of the project from what you see now to its finish and its delivery to your hands!

What happens if we surpass our goal?
We are doing this on a VERY tight budget in regards to the size and scope of this project. If we raise more than the estimated budget, we will have a MUCH better chance of getting this to exactly how we see it. Plus we will be able to hire on a marketing and promotional team to help us package this properly. Needless to say, more money = even more visually stunning VFX.
Thank You People Of The Interweb!!
We hope that you, Kickstarter, and all of you out there in Internet land, dreamland, or otherwise reality will support our project, our dream, and help us turn this ambitious illusion into reality and spread the art form of magic to the television world.

Risks and challenges
Risks and Challenges:
Every project has its speed bumps, but our biggest challenge is going to be the NETWORKS. The big, bad, scary networks that even if we make our goal, film our short, present it to them with flying colors, can ultimately turn us away and crush our dreams of turning our film into a television show. On the bright side, we will have at least made a badass film to be proud of, and cherish forever. Getting turned away by the networks won't stop us. We've worked far too hard, for far too long, to let anything slow us down. There are quite a few options, actually. Let's say for example, we miraculously raise way more money than we anticipated.... With that kind of money we could surpass the networks all together, turn the short into a full length feature, create a fully funded web series, design comic books, a video game, and so on. We are not afraid of failure, because we just won't allow it. On the other end, if the networks do pick up the show, there are risks involved in that as well. When dealing with the networks, contracts will be signed, and negotiations will be made. That can be very scary when you've got a vision, and have been nursing your baby for 4 years. This is why you have recently seen people such as Zach Braff, raising their own funds. Which works for a feature film but when it comes to television, there’s only one way to make that green stuff flow like wine, the NETWORKS. And that my friends is why we have to raise this money, and be the best we can be. If we fail to raise the funds, it will most certainly set us back. We will be back to square one trying to pitch the project to big investors, prolonging the project for a couple months, 6 months, or even a year. If that occurs, we will keep pushing, however, we truly believe that with a positive mind and enough friends, family, and fans behind us, we will finally be able to make our dreams a reality.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
