About this project
VERA is a sci-fi drama short film that focuses on an astronaut who is stranded alone in space and is now headed on a collision course with the Sun. Adam struggles with isolation and his sanity on the ship while dealing with emotions from his past and future. This film focuses on the character and his journey to connect the world he knew to the dying environment around him.
The filmmakers of VERA are students attending Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Illinois. The team consists of a dedicated crew of film students led by Writer/Director Austin Wood and Cinematographer/Editor Matthew Wozniak. Together, they have worked on many short films crafting their storytelling and visual style.

How You Can Help Our Vision:
VERA is a very ambitious senior thesis project that requires extreme attention to detail, a large spaceship set, and great art direction. With these things and the beautiful visual style of the film, we can create something special. Designing and building a set filled with working props can be a very expensive thing, especially for students. All of your gracious donations will go towards building the set, visual effects, camera equipment rentals, catering for cast and crew, hiring an actor, and last but not least, submitting to film festivals. As a young filmmaker, the hardest thing to do is get your film seen, and there is no better way to do that than send it out to festivals.
We believe that with your help we can craft an amazing experiential film that will engage the audience visually as well as emotionally.
We are currently in Pre-Production which means we are working on the set, hosting auditions, and preparing every small detail before our shooting dates.
Production begins on November 14th, 2012 and concludes on the 18th.
Post-Production will begin shortly after in December with plans to have a finished film by late April-early May.
We will be updating this page frequently to keep you in the loop of all things VERA! We are so excited for this film and we hope you are too!
Thank you so much for the support!

Risks and challenges
The challenges we face in making this film are trying to build a convincing spaceship set that envelopes the audience into the world of Vera. Another challenge is creating a strong character driven film that is essentially a single character story. We want to bring the themes and ideas that are important to us into this character and watch him travel through an emotional journey. We believe we have a strong film that will challenge the audience and take them on this emotional journey with the character.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
