About
Earlier this year, we did the impossible and made an original 12-episode mini series. Part Sesame Street, part Venture Bros, part Odd Couple, part Avenue Q, "Dungeon Crawlers" featured a typical D&D dungeon crawl from the monsters' perspectives.
Thrak the Cyclops, Jill the human, and Benny the Wraith had to survive their day job of protecting the Treasure from adventurers, but first they had to survive...being roommates.
We are determined to create 12, 11-minute episodes to be posted on Youtube for everyone to enjoy. In addition, certain contributors will be inspiring bonus videos with the characters, because if we're building this fantasy/parody world, we want it to be just as much yours as it is ours.
We've updated our equipment. We've learned how to Blue-Screen. We've learned how to tighten our scripts. We can make the series better. We are aiming for on-set locations including gaming stores like Silver Eagle Gaming Supplies in upstate CT. We can pull in more live on-screen actors with the puppets, time to write full, original songs.
I'm Karl "Uncle Yo" Custer. I, along with my tireless editor, Richard Baldovin of Trifocal Production, have been cranking out stand alone videos to promote my geek-specific stand-up comedy career. I am a fantasy nerd, a Dungeon Master, a stand-up comedian with a BFA in Screenwriting. But Dungeon Crawlers was always different; it was serial, loose and, beyond all, an effort of love.
Risks and challenges
We have DONE THIS BEFORE TO COMPLETION.
With the on-site location filming, logistics and timing can get in the way. And unlike last season, I do not want to settle for less.
Basically, time. Time to write the episodes, time to recast Jill, time to set aside a weekend where I am NOT performing at a weekend long convention, and time for Richard to edit with all the new toys, lights and soundtrack.
While the episodes will be set to release in early 2016, we can guarantee the rewards will go out on time because we already have the okay to start producing. I am personally ironing the Thrak Hats, we are filming and editing the new DVD as we speak from the Rochester First Niagara Fringe Festival.
Even if we don't make our goal, we will still be releasing stand-alone skit videos and bonus material of the characters.
