About
In this house, we love games.
I want to share with you the really cool thing that happens in my home each week. For the past 8 years, Vincent and I have hosted a weekly gaming group in our home. It started when our oldest son was 13 and wanted a place to hold a gaming group, and we are now on the third round of middle-school kids coming to game at our house. Over the years there have been over a dozen people in the #BakerHouseBand. They've played a LOT of different games, including being in-house early players for things like Murderous Ghosts, Firebrands, The King Is Dead, and Apocalypse World 2e. These kids (and young adults) love gaming.
Along with this, I've spent a week each spring for the past several years running a LARP for 25 high-school kids. I have loved those weeks. Writing up the things I've learned is a labor of love and I do so in the hope that other folks out there might be able to replicate what I've done with the support of great kids and a school that loves learning through play.
Over the years, there have been some legendary characters, some fascinating equipment, some cool custom moves, and some unexpected takes on things we thought we knew about gaming. The Band members have played a lot of games, learned to GM, to have fun while taking care of each other, and to hack what they like to make what they love. Now I want to share some of that with you. Some of the Band you might recognize; Elliot Baker wrote The Show playbook for Apocalypse World, Josh Savoie wrote The News , and Sebastian Baker wrote a whole cycle of original mythology inspired by play. Other Band members are entirely new to publishing their work in this way, and that's pretty exciting too.
Each Band member with work in the 'zine will get a portion of the funds raised, in gratitude for showing up week after week, and for being part of this. It's an honor to host them, and a wonderful chance to share some of what the next generation is doing. I love them with my whole heart.
Risks and challenges
Vincent and I are also working on Under Hollow Hills this spring, so there will be some project management to do, but we also have a well-established track record of producing good work in a timely fashion.
