One world, forever divided into two realms. The Dream World, a realm of magic, immortality, and mysteries. Mhodica, a realm of solid matter, stone, and certainties. For as long as either realm could remember, they were precious little more than myth to each other.
Though once stories of witches, wizards, ghosts and goblins were considered nothing more than stories to frighten small children, the age of certainty is coming to an end. A darkness is stirring which threatens to shatter the equilibrium of the two realms forever.
The only way to avert this catastrophe is for the people of Mhodica to accept the existence of magic, and for the people of the Dream World to accept that the world of Mhodica exists for something more than their own amusement.
Luminous Echo is half art book showcasing the work of Wen-M and half an outline of the world, as well as many characters, weapons, stories, and places.
They set the stage for those who purchase the book to create a variety of adventures in the RPG system of their choosing.
In this first book, your travels through Mhodica will take you through the two kingdoms, their cities, and many of the fascinating wonders of the world. During your journey, you’ll encounter numerous colorful characters, creatures, and unravel the ancient mysteries of the Waking and Dream worlds, as experienced by Greg and Mandi.
Kickstarter is an excellent way not only to ease the financial burden of creators by reaching out to a potential fan base, but also to determine the potential audience.
In addition, it allows the backers to help to steer the project in directions that backers are interested in, and perhaps avoid some directions that backers aren’t quite as interested in to help make a product which better meshes with the needs of the backers and general public.
If funded, we’ll be able to produce a 120 to 200 color page (Depending on stretch goals) 8.5" x 11" hardcover book featuring a substantial stable of non-player characters, amazing legendary weapons, fantastic locations, well detailed plot hooks for your own adventures, many short stories to flesh out characters, and page after page of Wen-M's artwork.
In creating the world of Luminous Echo, these things have all been poured into one giant melting pot in just the right proportions to create something new.
Heroes with unlimited potential meet with god like beings and battle fantastical monsters, all the while exploring a world of limitless wonder. But what really makes Luminous Echo special to the team is that we brought our friends into it, either creating alongside one another or placing them affectionately into the very fabric of the world. Luminous Echo is not just a hobby, but a way for us to continue to celebrate the very friendship that helped to put this together.
And now we want to bring you this wealth of knowledge, magic, and hopefully inspiration so you too can bring your friends along on your next great adventure!
Kevin Chiu (Producer) is a resident of Vancouver B.C., and a long time planner of video game communities, and MMO development. Growing up with a very strict family, it was often easier for him to read about video games than it was to play them. He’s decided it’s time to make some gaming news, instead of just reading it, for a change.
Wen Li (Art Director/Co-Producer), also known as Wen-M, is a Chinese born American citizen from San Francisco best known for his illustration work with the popular Anima – Beyond fantasy gaming franchise, as well as concept art for a number of other games, and his own franchise Rosgladia. After all this time developing art for others games, Wen has taken Kevin up on his offer to make a game of his own.
Ian Stewart (Writer/Co-Producer) is a native of Portland Oregon, mostly known for an overwhelming passion for pie, and developing fantasy and science fiction worlds. Also, he has a background in planning online advertising, ad Kickstarter planning. He was asked to join in to help fill out the teams writing and advertising chops.
Andrea Daneilson (Writer) "Home is where the heart is for Andrea, and that's generally wherever she can write and draw to her heart's content. Having helped Wen in a few things before, she joined on Luminous as a writer, excited to help flesh out the world she had been introduced to so long ago."
Risks and challenges
We will do our utmost to ensure that the end product is of the highest quality we can produce. While the lion’s share of work is done, and all that needs to be done is secure funds for the remaining artwork, the writing, and physical printing costs. As such the greatest challenge will be making sure all of the production needs come together on our current time table, as despite the best of intentions, it’s possible for small setbacks to take root.
The potential rewards of the project far outweigh the unlikely risks. Luminous Echo is a brand new property in many senses, which means it will be far more open to input from our fans than certain other settings of this sort might be.
We’ll be able to share initial concept art and story fragments with fans to solicit opinions on possible directions we can take when there’s a fork in the road. While not everything will be open for discussion, we will periodically be able share a few works in progress to see how our backers feel about them.
In the end, this will help make the world not just ours, but invite you in to it as well to help leave your own mark on both Mhodica and the Dream as well.
