FATED is a comedy about a cosmic, all-seeing place called The Fate Management Agency.
Employees of the Fate Management Agency are responsible for the destiny of every person on Earth. But their clients – us normal folks – don’t know they exist.
The story of FATED revolves around Joe, a low-level agent, and his one client, Frank. Frank is crude, immature and lazy, barely ever leaving his shabby apartment.
As his agent, Joe can’t control Frank. He can only try to steer him in the right direction by setting up seemingly random opportunities, coincidences or meetings. After that, Joe has to sit back and watch to see which path Frank chooses, if he seizes the moment or lets it pass by.
But because Joe can’t even get Frank to leave his couch, Joe is in big trouble with his boss at the Agency. Fearing for his job, Joe decides he must take drastic measures and travel down to Earth to hopefully smack some sense into his client.
And that’s when the real trouble starts…
“Joe” - Brett Jacobsen
After completing a Master's degree in film production at the Florida State University Motion Picture Conservatory, Brett moved to Los Angeles where he pursued acting. He gained critical acclaim with a starring role in the independent feature film entitled The Myth of the American Sleepover, which won a special audience award for Best Ensemble Cast at SXSW, was an official selection for the Cannes Film Festival Critics Week program, and was released by IFC in July 2011. Brett’s currently following up that success with a supporting role in the upcoming thriller Too Late, starring John Hawkes.
“Frank” – Kyle Sabihy
Kyle Sabihy has been acting in films and television shows since he was a youth, with credits including Hiller and Diller, 7th Heaven, and Analyze This and Analyze That with Robert De Niro and Billy Crystal. Most recently, he’s appeared in NBC’s Awake and FX’s Justified.
*NEW CAST MEMBER: “Eliza” - Vanessa Lee Chester
Vanessa has been bringing her roles to life since a young age in films such as The Lost World: Jurassic Park and A Little Princess, and she was recently seen on TV's How I Met Your Mother. Vanessa will be playing Joe's friend and fellow agent at the Fate Management Agency and we're thrilled to have her as part of the FATED team!
*We are in the process of casting more supporting roles and have some very exciting leads – check back to our Kickstarter page for updates!
Jeremy Foley, Director
Jeremy has produced and directed every episode for the award-winning digital series Mobsters, which featured guest stars Allen Covert (Grandma’s Boy), Brian Austin Green (Desperate Housewives, The Wedding Band) and Julie Gonzalo (TNT’s Dallas). This led him to other opportunities, such as directing the “Ordinary Girl” music video for Stu Stone; the pilot for Fletcher Drive with Stana Katic (ABC’s Castle); and, other episodic series like The Mamaluke starring Johnny “Roast Beef” Williams (Goodfellas). A former actor himself, Jeremy is comfortable working with actors to craft great performances and looks forward to bringing out the humor and heart in FATED.
Sara O’Reilly, Writer/Producer
Originally from New York, Sara O’Reilly has lived in Los Angeles for seven years, writing and producing behind-the-scenes content for feature films and television shows, including this summer’s Man of Steel as well as HBO’s Game of Thrones and Boardwalk Empire. After working so long for other films, Sara decided she wanted to create some stories of her own. FATED was originally a feature-length concept, but in order to bring the story to life earlier she decided to write and produce it as a short film first.
Will Myers, Director of Photography
Will Myers is a truly versatile Director of Photography who has traveled all over the world shooting commercials, music videos and branded content for clients such as Nike, American Express, Whole Foods, and Hyatt. A great collaborator, Will has worked with Director Jeremy Foley on several previous projects. Will’s keen eye and photographic sensibilities will bring a unique look to FATED.
Jim Betterton, Associate Producer
Jim is co-creator of the award-winning web series Mobsters alongside FATED Director Jeremy Foley. As the latest member to the FATED crew, Jim's drive and enthusiasm will be a great asset on the project.
Tyler McDonald, Sound Mixer
Tyler has been working as a professional Production Sound Mixer for over five years, and has been a part of many different teams. He's worked with Jeremy and crew on Mobsters and you may have seen (or rather heard) some of his work on MTV, Discovery Channel, and various feature films. He will ensure that FATED has top-notch audio to match the top-notch visuals.
Zachary Wright, Consulting Producer
Zach is a talented filmmaker who is skilled in producing, directing, shooting and writing. He has used this wide range of experience to work on music videos, non-profit promos, web series and short films. After a successful collaboration with Director Jeremy Foley on the pilot episode of Fletcher Drive, which Zach produced, he is excited to bring his vast production expertise to the FATED team.
What is Kickstarter?
Kickstarter is a website designed to help people raise money for their independent projects. The idea is that a lot of small contributions will add up to help us complete our funding goal.
You become a backer by pledging any amount of money in support of FATED. In return, we have some really fun rewards, like a link to the finished film, signed poster, props, and your name in the credits! Check out all of the Rewards on the right column of our page.
However, Kickstarter is all-or-nothing. FATED only receives funding if the entire $12,500 goal is met. We have 30 days to raise the funds. So your pledges and support are extremely important to us – every dollar will put us closer to our goal. Helping us spread the word about our project is equally important, so please tell your friends and family to check out our Kickstarter page!
Where does the money go?
FATED is a high-concept existential comedy. The world of the Fate Management Agency is going to be slick and modern in comparison to Earth, with visual effects and unique color-correction to let the viewer know we’re not in Kansas anymore.
With this funding, our goal is to shoot on the RED EPIC cameras, which will give the film a beautiful, cinematic look. In addition, we need to secure several locations, including an Office Location for the scenes within the Fate Management Agency. And of course, we have to pay for the filmmaking essentials like location permits, insurance, and food for our cast and crew.
Your pledges will contribute to all of these costs, as well as ultimately help us to enter FATED into film festivals across the country.
Risks and challenges
Every film has inherent challenges but with the combined professional experience of our talented cast and crew, we are confident we can deal with any curveballs that are thrown our way.
Our Kickstarter goal is not our entire budget - we’ve already invested our own money for a portion of it. We chose a funding goal that we thought was both attainable (as we mentioned, Kickstarter is all-or-nothing) and would complete our budget for the remaining funds. So we’re investors too, and we won't let a single penny go to waste. We consider this Short Film an exciting challenge and opportunity. It’s a chance to bring our audience an entertaining, heartfelt story that has the look and feel of a big budget Hollywood movie within a short format. With your donations and support, we will be able to make FATED at the highest quality possible.
The script is completed and we are well underway with Pre-Production. The outcome of our Kickstarter will help us wrap up the last few details before production, which we are slating for November. We will keep all of our backers informed of our progress, as well as any exciting or unexpected developments as they occur.
Thank you so much for your donation and support!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
