"Somewhere by the sea, there was a village..."
The Ocean King is a comic I've recently finished working on!
I've been incredibly happy with the response it's gotten from people, as the comic has been a big challenge for me, and to see it be received so positively is amazing!
I want to take this project a step further now, and turn it into a physical comic. This book will be printed in the form of a cloth scroll- it'll be a whole other challenge for me to achieve, but hopefully it will result in a unique reading experience! I plan on selling it at expos mainly, but by supporting this project you will have the chance to own a copy, no matter where you are!
Any donation is helpful!
A Note about pricing:
I want to clarify a few things about why it's £20 to preorder a book but my goal is only £90
- I plan to be printing through Spoonflower, and am printing on fabric which is measured in yards. The comic is about 6 yards long, and they can fit several repeats of the comic onto one 6 yard piece.
- I've calculated that the rough unit value of each comic printed with Spoonflower will be about £10 each.
- However the added £10 is to cover the labour I will have to do to bind the books (since I'll only be recieving raw printed fabric from spoonflower) and also any unexpected costs that may come up in shipping as it's difficult to predict how much postage will be (considering I don't have other objects of a similar size to test)
Risks and challenges
The main risks of this comic are as follows:
>The print may not work as well as I hoped. I've never printed on cloth before, and it is likely that any trials will have to be made before a final product is realized. If this happens, I will work to find the most cost effective alternative printing method, that will still deliver the quality you've paid for.
>There may be trouble with delivery/postage. I will aim to make sure each parcel is sent out as safely as possible, and will keep you all updated about that as it gets closer to the time.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
