Welcome to the Devil's Run Roleplaying Game kickstarter! Pledge now to helps us fund an RPG set within the zany and dark post-apocalypse of the popular Devil's Run board game.
In a maelstrom of carnage and destruction worthy of a George Miller movie, the Devil's Run setting exploded onto the kickstarter scene with the high-octane fun of the Route 666 board game. The setting's popularity has grown and grown thanks to the hugely successful Hell's Highway expansion, but the thrill of the ride is far from over!
Red Scar are now all set to blow the doors off on the events that laid waste to continents, reshaped the global arena and gave rise to new powers and factions through the engaging medium of a pen-and-paper roleplaying game.
This kickstarter will fund the production of a printed edition of the Devil's Run Roleplaying Game core book: a lavish softcover rulebook of approximately 320 pages that will empower both GMs and players alike with the ability to explore this post-apocalyptic setting in more detail than ever before. The Devil's Run RPG core book will utilise the popular 2d20 ruleset - a lightweight system that seeks to seamlessly integrate story and action whilst keeping the game focussed on the players.
The core book will not only greatly expand upon the factions that have already been introduced by the board games, but will also introduce several new ones. It will also delve further into the history of the setting, from the very Day of the Apocalypse to its current timeline, some twenty years later. Global affairs will also be explored, including a closer look at the new super powers that contend on the world stage.
Rather than act as two separate entities that share the same setting, part of our aim is to also provide as much cross-platform support as possible for the Devil's Run board game. With your help, we are aiming to introduce a new range of 20mm miniatures that can be used for either the RPG or board game. The RPG core book and any supplements we unlock will include sample board game stats for notable npcs, which means that play can easily flow between the two mediums - should you wish it to, of course.
Please note, however, that there is absolutely no need to pick up either the miniatures or the board game in order to enjoy the wild and explosive mayhem of the Devil's Run RPG! As a pen-and-paper game of post-apocalyptic storytelling, the RPG can be used to provide endless entertainment all on its own.
That's not all, however! As an added boost to the Devil's Run RPG kickstarter, we will be providing dual support for both 2d20 and the popular Savage Worlds system. This means that NPCs will be provisioned with stats for both 2d20 and Savage Worlds, while full rules will be provided for faction-specific career packages and exciting new Edges that focus on vehicular carnage. Additionally, we will be exploring the provision of vechicles as Extras, which will allow for them to be developed and grow with the characters in a more dynamic form as the campaign develops.
Important Note: This game references the Savage Worlds game system, available from Pinnacle Entertainment Group at www.peginc.com. If you're new to kickstarter, follow these simple steps to support the Devil's Run RPG campaign.
Once we reach our funding goal, stretch goals will help us unlock even more potential!
In the world of the Devil's Run, a Cold War that had never thawed exploded into a nuclear exchange that forever altered the global stage and plunged the world into chaos. Russia and much of China disappeared in the wake of the first strike launched by the United States, but their retaliatory bombardments razed the East Coast and most of the central states. Spared widescale nuclear devastation, the population centres of the West Coast were instead subjected to the horrors of the Revenant Virus: a deadly and virulent chemical that creates rage-fuelled zombies out of the living.
Blind luck or the hand of the devil himself saved San Francisco from a fate worse than death on the Day of the Apocalypse. Although the city suffered its own wounds as a result of that tumultuous day, it rapidly became a haven for any survivors that could survive the journey to the so-called 'safe zone'. In the twenty years since, new factions that have risen from the ashes of the Old World have turned San Fran's streets into a hotly contested warzone as each vies for domination over the others.
To meet the initial humanitarian obligations that they set themselves, the other countries of the world continue to send aid packages north of the Mexican border that defines the Quarantine Zone. It is these air drops that most often send the factions into a frenzy of roaring engines and blazing guns as they seek to once again claim the prize of the Devil's Run.
If you're a fan of George Miller movies and shows such as the Walking Dead, then you're sure to love everything the Devil's Run RPG has to offer! Although the Revenants from those first days following the Day of the Apocalypse have long since turned to dust, the virus itself still poses a deadly risk, and that is something that we very much intend to explore with the introduction of factions such as the Los Nigromantes, amongst others.
You can read about Modiphius' popular 2d20 system by clicking anywhere here. Designed by Jay Little, the flexible system has provided the mechanical backdrop to many setting such as Star Trek Adventures, Conan Adventures in an Age Undreamed Of, Infinity the Roleplaying Game, Mutant Chronicles, and the forthcoming John Carter RPG.

And here is a visual representation of the contents of the Miles' Massacre standalone expansion:
Note: Although the missions that accompany the Miles' Massacre expansion tie in with the events of the RPG's opening adventure, the board game and RPG can both be played completely independently. It is not necessary to buy a copy of Miles' Massacre to enjoy the RPG, and vice versa.
In addition to backing us, we would also like to ask for your help in spreading the word about our kickstarter. As a thank you for doing so, we will be unlocking some special social media goals along the way!
NOTE: All book add-ons provide both a print and PDF copy. PDFs are included free with the Print pledge level, the Wasteland Survivor pledge and each pledge above this. All pledge level may choose add-ons.
We'll charge shipping after the Kickstarter closes using a pledge manager. Our close ties with Word Forge Games have allowed us to utilise their own tried and tested pledge manager, which means that there is minimal additional cost for us to calculate towards the funding goal in this regard (other pledge managers charge a percentage handling fee).
We are working with a well established fulfillment company to ensure that your products are delivered in a timely and cost-effective manner. It's possible, however, that these shipping prices may alter as better deals are acheived, so we will strive to keep you informed. Depending on what you order, the option of a single shipment or split shipments can also be offered. If you know someone that can share the costs, joint shipping is also a very good option we can offer to help alleviate the costs.
Shipping will commence in waves from the UK to the rest of the world, then use local hubs in the USA, Canada, and Australia to ensure costs remain as low as possible. If you would prefer to receive your items sooner, however, we are open to the possibilty of arranging Airmail and collecting payment during the Pledge Manager, but please be aware that this will significantly increase your shipping costs.
Red Scar are currently a small, family-run business, though we have gathered a team of artists, writers and editors from all corners of the globe in our quest to be inclusive and diverse.

Risks and challenges
As with any kickstarter, there are certain risks that may be encountered along the road to delivering the completion of this project. Our strong links to both Modiphius and Word Forge Games have allowed us to draw upon invaluable experience when it comes to getting a kickstarter right! In order to bring you the best possible experience and minimise concerns, we've also done plenty of homework.
Thanks to his role as Lead Writer for Modiphius' Mutant Chronicles 3rd Edition Roleplaying Game, Marc Langworthy has gained invaluable experience in managing projects of this scope. He has an extensive and supportive network to draw upon should any cracks appear in the road and understands the need for clear communication. Regular updates will be provided to not only showcase new artwork or content as it arrives, but to also inform of unforseen delays or speed bumps.
Taking our time to progress with certain areas - such as gang creation and vehicles as Extras - will allow us to absorb feedback from you, the backers, as the core book heads into layout in preparation for print. The majority of the faction and setting background has also been greatly expanded, although this is in the process of being condensed back down so that it can fit into the core book.
Of course, there is also the fact that the project has been cancelled once before. This should be viewed as a positive sign, however, as we were closely watching the project and its likelihood of success. It was readily apparent that we could perform better and changes were required. A recent update on the previous launch provided an insight into the changes that have taken place to ensure that this will not happen again.
Red Scar's team of artists, writers, editors and layout gurus are passionate about delivering the best possible product that they can for you, in a timely manner. We're lined up on the starting grid and raring to go, all we need is your support to make this high-octane project a reality!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
