4 Years ago, I was obese, angry, and unhealthy. I was working for my family in a high stress situation, I was coming home from work lashing out at my husband and eating away my feelings. Our friend’s father died at a young age, and it shook us. We became vegan, I started running and going to yoga, and then the last and biggest step I quit my job. It was huge toll financially as well as a strain on my family. But it was better. I worked at a local farm for a year while I did my yoga teacher training. I struggled through training, I was still a new yogi, and for some reason the teacher had singled me out as someone he needed to be hard on. It was a true trial by fire, but by the end I had gained so much mental and physical strength. By the time I was finished with training I had already started my own yoga business traveling to 7 local preschools teaching yoga every week. It was and is an amazing job.
It has taken me a lot of hard work and trial and error to find this lifestyle and I would like to help other people find it, and other ways to live a more healthy and whole life. There is a trend happening right now, of returning to our homesteading roots. The main goal of the podcast is to help people get closer to those homesteading traditions while still living in the real world. We don't all have the ability to use cloth diapers, grow and can all our own food, and do yoga all day without worrying about bills, but we CAN try to find modern methods or alternatives to live within a healthy whole lifestyle. When I had my son I felt like the information I wanted wasn’t available to me, I was either being told to hand wash and dry my prefold cotton diapers, or which brand of bulk diapers is best, and there is SO much more in between. I didn’t know there WAS such a thing as a zero waste home, or that things like diva cups, crop shares, or postpartum doulas existed, and I really wish I had.
I want to create an online community in which hosts and guests can ask questions of each other, and source answers from each other as well as be introduced to new concepts, resources, and people on the show. Currently I am releasing episodes out of my home on borrowed equipment to give potential backers some kind of idea what they can look forward to.
As a stay at home mom, and part time kids yoga teacher I don’t have the funds lying around to record and produce high quality podcasts. The funds raised by the kickstarter will pay for recording equipment and foam to turn my home office into a recording studio. In addition to hardware, it will also pay for the software needed to properly edit the episodes. With the funds I will also be able to offer promotional materials; like t shirts, bags, and stickers as well as a website and an increased social media presence.
I have some great rewards ranging from a thank you on our website, to access to our google hangouts with guest, tee shirts, sweatshirts, on air thank you’s, you could be a guest on the show, or even help me host the show and bring your own guest on!
We also have some stretch goals that I hope to accomplish! At $8,000 - daily short video At $10,000 - monthly video podcast At $12,000 - monthly healthy living class; it might be a yoga class, or a cooking class. And possibly even more! The Kickstarter will run for 30 days from July 1st to the 30th! I am so thankful for your emotional, and financial support. I am extremely passionate about this project and I can’t wait to share it will all of you and hear all of your feedback and questions.
Risks and challenges
There aren't very many risks or challenges for me, right now I am sharing, computer, equipment, time and space with someone else who records podcasts. Getting my Kickstarter funded will mean that I can have my own equipment (better equipment) and more time and space to complete episodes, edit them, and produce them.
I already have more people that have voiced a desire to be on the show, once I have a website and a running podcast it will be even easier to point to it and say "this, this is what I do, do you want to be a part of this?".
I am completing all aspects of rewards personally save for the production of any physical material. I have entrusted this task to someone local who many of my friends use to make their promotional items for their own business.
Having my kickstater backed will make every aspect of creating this amazing podcast easier for me, and allow listeners and guests to be more involved and have more influence over the content.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
