Hey! You there! Yes, you. The one reading this right now.
WE NEED YOUR HELP!
We are The Japanese, a three piece rock band (or "power trio" if you will) from Wesleyan University in Connecticut. We've been together for four years, playing a number of shows with acts like Lightning Bolt, Twin Shadow, Zammuto, and Kayo Dot. We play some kind of post-prog-punk-pop-math-indie-jangle-fusion of rock music, which probably doesn't tell you anything at all, so here are some links to things that we're mentioned in. A few years ago, with the help of good friend Danny Sullivan, we recorded a few songs and made a (NSFW) music video that people seemed to like. But now, with two of our members graduating into the real world, we're not sure what comes next.
That's why, two weeks ago, we went to NYC and recorded an EP. We wanted a record of what we've done these past four years that, at the very least, we could look back to and remember. We also wanted to give all of you, our friends, family, and curious internet readers, these songs as a thank you for all of your help and support. And last, we will certainly be sending copies of the EP off to record companies, A&Rs, blogs, etc. to get our music out there and see what happens.
We worked in an awesome studio with a fantastic producer on five mostly-new songs. We're extremely excited about the work we've done so far (some of which can be heard in the video at the top of the page), but the process is still far from complete.
WE NEED YOUR HELP TO FINISH OUR EP
While the three of us have been able to pay off a fair amount of the initial recording costs (through jobs, equipment rentals, and THIS), there is still a lot of production work (mixing and mastering) to be done before any of these songs are "complete." The money you donate will go directly towards the completion of this EP, which will be released as soon as humanly possible (most likely this summer). $3,000 will definitely pay for a fully produced, mixed, and mastered three song EP. Any additional money will go towards finishing songs 4 and 5.
If all of that wasn't enough to convince you to donate, please look to the right and read about all of the rewards we will be offering to donors. There are plenty of great options to choose from!
Thank you all for taking the time to read this! We really appreciate your support and hope that you contribute to our EP. Please send this along to anyone you think might be interested in our kickstarter and don't hesitate to ask if you have any questions.
Risks and challenges
Not many, honestly. The songs are recorded and in very capable hands, so if we get enough money to pay our producer, he will take care of the rest. The only possible hiccup might be how long it takes to finish each individual track. While we believe the EP will be fully finished and released during the summer, the absolute worst case scenario would see that delayed to fall.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
