Who is Climbing Injuries Solved for?

Climbing Injuries Solved is for those who suffer from injuries that drive them away from their passion; for those who must re-invent themselves when they are forced to take time off from what they love. A bit of inspiration to give hope and insight, this book is designed to help you to build a custom plan to get back to where you love to be.

You aren’t alone. Many athletes, not just climbers, suffer from injuries. These injuries change how we live and function. By living without the proper care, these injuries remove us from our favorite sports. Luckily, we can change that… starting now.

A paradigm shift. In teaching YOU how to do your own self-care and maintenance, focusing on injury prevention, you will never reach the point where your doctor tells you to quit your favorite sport. Why did I write Climbing Injuries Solved?

I come from an avid background of endurance sports, filled with overuse injuries that forced me to learn prevention techniques. College scholarships ruined by repetitive injuries and illnesses required me to learn how to avoid fractures and why time off worked for some instances and not in others. With the addition of self-care, I was able to return to pre-injury status and achieve the accolade of youngest Leadwoman in 2013.

The concept of creating an athlete-based manual on self-care and treatment began at a climbing event’s medical tent, during my 5th year of working with USAClimbing. While providing care, the athletes often asked questions about their physical well being and what corrective actions they could take to fix or care for new and/or lingering injuries. I found the same clues of missing self-care from one athlete to the next. Regardless of what caliber of climber they were, they all wanted to know how to fix themselves but didn’t know of any ways to find out.

Climbing Injuries Solved is my way of sharing my self-taught lessons and the clinical pearls I have accumulated working on and with accomplished climbers, triathletes, and cyclists. Many of the healthiest athletes are the ones that have learned self-care and have taken the time to understand the relationship between strength, mobility, and the mechanics of one’s body.

As a means to reach out and to teach as many athletes as possible, I think this book is the quickest way for me to help initiate a change among our community as a whole. The lessons taught in Climbing Injuries Solved cross the borders between sports. Many of the teachings can also be passed to your doctors, friends and family, not just from one athlete to another.

What will the Funding go toward?

To meet the costs associated with the writing, creative works, and the self-publication of Climbing Injuries Solved. Reaching the kickstarter goal will set the stage for this book to make it to the open market and have it available to a wider audience, so it will make a real difference in the community.

Another reason I wrote Climbing Injuries Solved is to raise money and awareness for the American Safe Climbing Association (ASCA). The ASCA mission is to replace deteriorating anchors on classic climbs in the U.S. and educate climbers and the public about climbing safety. Fully funding this kickstarter will meet the majority of the costs associated with the book, allowing me to initiate my fundraising for ASCA. At the point of meeting costs, 10% of my proceeds (or $1 per book at a minimum) will be given directly to the ASCA.

Meet the Artist:

This book is comprised of brilliant 3-D medical illustrations by Milos Tutus, a graduate of the Fine Academy of Art in Belgrade Serbia. Milos specializes in 3-D modeling and character design. Each painfully detailed illustration was a collaboration between Milos and I. My knowledge of the human anatomy and Milos’ modeling skills resulted in artistically realistic climbing-specific medical models. He artistically crafted modern adaptions of basic climbing poses for your anatomical understanding.

In writing Climbing Injuries Solved I am merely working to spread light to an injured community. With self-care ideas that should be shared, the goal is to create a community of health based activity where injury is the exception and not the rule.

Risks and challenges

This book is now 99% complete. The eBook is currently in a 2-page view PDF version. It still needs to be updated to iPad and Kindle formats. Once we have funding, it will be updated to something that can be viewed on an iPad, iPhone or Kindle.

The first test books have been printed in enough bulk to mail out to the KickStarter pledgers who claim them. I have already figured out how to affordably and effectively streamline bulk mailing and postage so you can receive your book as soon as the KickStarter ends. With your help I feel this will be one of those fantastic books that friends might try to borrow or steal to gain the secrets of the self-care realm! Thank you all for your support, I’m really excited to get this out to the world and to give back.

We have done dry runs of the shipping process from our location in Colorado and have the first 400 boxes already in house (we found a great discount). All we now need is labels and that book in-hand to get your orders fulfilled. There might be an unexpected slow down if the kickstarter goes too well, but that's something we can deal with if the time comes.
