Use this space to cheer the creator along, ask questions, and talk to your fellow backers. Please remember to be respectful and considerate. Thanks!
Refund check received today, thank you. Best of luck to the creator and remaining backers.
I don't know what happened to my response to the creator on 12/4 but we're in contact now.
On December 4th I requested an email or snail mail address to provide Mr. Atkinson his refund. To do this transaction with his privacy in mind I sent that request to his private email associated with his Kickstarter profile. I never heard back from him until now.
The creator contacted me privately on December 4th and gave me the impression that a refund check would be forthcoming. I haven't received it yet, though.
I feel like I've been more than patient with the long delays and infrequent communication, but I'm done. Please refund my pledge.
Dear Antonio Stano,
I have posted an answer to your question.
I believe you have a misconception about Kickstarter. As stated on the site: "a community of people committed to bringing new things to life…” That means backers contribute to something which is in the process of becoming.
Backing a project is not like purchasing a product from Amazon. Or buying a video at Best Buy. Backing a project means taking a risk — it might be delayed — or never complete.
This is the full answer he sent me :
If you are not satisfied with this answer I am willing to offer you a full refund. This is the relevant policy from the Kickstarter Terms of Service:
"Project Creators may cancel or refund a Backer’s pledge at any time and for any reason, and if they do so, are not required to fulfill the reward.”
Unless I hear otherwise in 48 hours that you want to remain a Backer, I will be refunding you $10.00 — the amount you contributed.
If you choose to remain a Backer I ask that you refrain from making threats against the film. Should that activity continue I will be the one to take steps with Kickstarter.
Producer/Director, Zero Day documentary
In response to the previous comment about a release date: Once completion funds are in place, estimating 4-6 months to completion. Actual release date is a decision which the buyer(s) and distributor(s) make, in consultation with the producer. Those backers getting a DVD as a reward should receive it soon after completion.
3 Years and no release date or nothing...You are talking about nothing!! PLEASE tell us a real date !! I am going to inform Kickstarter and major newspapers about this story.
Since we backked this project with REAL money can we please have a REAL date when all will be finished and delivered to us? Thanks
How about an update? Kickstarter says to be "respectful and considerate" when leaving comments. How about you respect your backers and give us a real update as to when to expect delivery?
The scope creep on this project is mind numbing. It has spent the last two years morphing from what I funded to what I do not care about and what will likely never be made. Glad I didn't sink anything significant into this farce.
Several days later, and not the slightest rebuttal from the project originator. I guess he doesn't care enough, any longer, to maintain his faulty cover...?
And now it looks like we've funded Charles' production of "The first opera in Cuba". Here's Charles' LinkedIn profile page: http://www.linkedin.com/pub/charles-koppelman/13/152/9b3
Has anyone visited the website recently? http://www.insidefacebookfilm.com/ (linked to this KickStarter project). It is a spam page with penny stock tips, child care advice and crown molding tips. Hmm, are they advanced hacking tools?
I'd really appreciate if if we could have an update, even a brief one, at least monthly.
??? I appreciate the last update that was provided, but it really didn't substantiate any real progress. At this point, I would even love to see any potential trailers they are using to shop this to studios. Ultimately, I backed an indie-venture, the entire point being to use crowd funding to circumvent the traditional studio route. But for some reason, this seems to be somehow tied to attempting to find a studio? Now that this has been mired in development hell for over two years, I think it's safe to assume that this is the first KickStarter venture that I've backed, which has failed.
Could we have another update? Thanks!
I saw your updates about the issues with BBC and Magnolia Pictures. Another documentary I backed via Kickstarter used SNAG Films. (The final product just aired on Lifetime Movie Network.) Have you engaged them yet? http://www.snagfilms.com/
@Tim M - yep, also thinking they're not going to be able to complete this. Software development has a term for the sort of thing we're seeing after 2 years...vaporware. :(
So, who is beginning to think that we won't actually see this any time soon?
I don't think it would be out of line to ask for some sample footage to show progress. Most other projects I've backed have done this, just to demonstrate the actual progress that has been made.
When one door closes another opens. The new prospects sound encouraging. Go Bruddah!
Hi Charles - Any word on your timetable would be appreciated. I would expect that you have a rough idea of your completion / distribution schedule, now that the rough cut is done. Thanks!
Thanks very much!
If you could give us another update, that would be awesome.
Thanks, Michael. We are about to post a project update regarding project status and schedule. Stay tuned.
Are you on track for a September release?
I knew this would be a success, so I had no doubts in backing you. Best regards, an Aussie supporter. :)
Very cool - proud of you Koppelmen- the great team of my nephew and bro!! Thanks for all the support from all over the world.
Vint Cert recommended this on FB so I thought I would contribute!
As an Information Assurance major, I had to back this. People need to know more about what's going on with the Internet and how they are a part of the problem, and solution.
Met you guys at the SINET event at Stanford. Glad to see your projects' success!
