Rocky’s is an independent market located in the Oakmore district right in the heart of Oakland, CA. Our Two Local Girls cafe operates inside the market offering breakfast, lunch, dinner, catering plus a full coffee bar.
Owner operators Corinne Kinczel, Brady Bellis and fifteen wonderful team members work hard every day to bring great food to our customers and to build bonds within our community.
We recently celebrated our two year anniversary and while we've experienced strong growth, we know we need to keep growing to survive in this competitive industry.
We're launching this Kickstarter campaign to raise money for a kitchen ventilation hood, induction cooking equipment, refrigeration and critical electrical work.
By upgrading our kitchen we'll be able to greatly expand the range of food we offer at Two Local Girls. Prepared foods is the strongest driver of growth in the industry and we feel like making these upgrades will position us to keep moving forward.
We prepare food onsite every day, with a focus on meals that combine the convenience of grab and go with a strong focus on nutrition and freshness. We also offer a wide range of gluten, dairy free and vegetarian options.
Our style of cooking leans towards strong flavors. The focus is always on great, seasonal ingredients. We network within the abundant Oakland and Bay Area food communities to find partnerships that shorten the distance from farm to table, work with companies who share our values and who provide our customers with some of the best food on Earth.
There has been a grocery store on the site of Rocky’s Market since at least the late 1930’s. We value the history of the location and try to honor the tradition of serving our neighborhood.
It's been a pretty amazing two years. We could not have done any of this without the support of our customers and our network of family and friends who keep us going and going and going...
We chose Kickstarter for fundraising because they gather together a community of people who see the value in businesses like ours and provide a great platform to help us grow.
To anyone considering a contribution, thank you so much. We'll see you at Rocky's!

Risks and challenges
The primary challenge we face in completing this project will be navigating the various regulatory bodies who oversee our business. We have already selected the equipment we will be purchasing and have our plans pre-approved, but experience has shown us that there are always unexpected, last minute wrinkles that arise when dealing with these agencies.
Luckily, we've gained some experience over the last two years and we begin this process with good plan in place and we're confident we'll be able to be up and running by our target date in September.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
