I've learned so much leading worship, writing songs, and serving in the church over the years.
I've come to see that the songs we sing in corporate worship are basically lyrical sermons sung back to God and to one another, and that the God who created everything out of nothing has equipped us to be sub-creators; we are to create out of what He has already made.
That’s why I feel called to create art that can be sung back to God in corporate worship. I want to write and record songs that help the church express her love for Jesus, His love for us, and His glorious plan of redemption and hope.
In an effort to be able to share these truths more effectively, I've planned to head into a recording studio in DC to work with a good friend of mine, Kurtis Parks, the worship director of National Community Church, to record a 5-song worship EP named, "The Longing.”
My hope is simple with the album: I want to record an album that creatively and excellently communicates that the longings we have are ultimately fulfilled in God.
But, I need to raise $6500 in 30 days if this project is going to actually happen.
Between paying for a producer, studio time, a few musicians, and mixing + mastering, I'll need to pay $1250 per song, plus I'll need some extra to pay Kickstarter for their additional fees. I have also personally set aside money to pay for the Backer rewards, including physical copies, distribution and shipping. Any additional money raised will be put toward a future album project.
If I'm not able to raise the full amount, Kickstarter will not charge any credit cards, and I won't receive any of the funds.
Without your help, I can't make this project a reality. So would you consider helping me fundraise this effort? Any help you can offer will be so appreciated.
Also, please share this on social media, invite friends, and spread the word! The more people that hear about this, the better.
Thank you so much for spending some time on this, and for thinking thoughtfully about what I'm certain is going to be a really great record.
Risks and challenges
The main potential for risk is simply in fulfilling the rewards in a timely manner. Things do arise during the creative process, and especially when it comes to actual distribution (pressing CDs, delivering content, etc...).
The dates I've supplied for each of the rewards are based on what I'm hoping is realistic. If any delays come up, I'll be sure to keep you updated along the way!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
