Why Is Our Coffee Different?
Strange Matter Defined:
Strange matter is a particular form of quark matter, usually thought of as a "liquid" of up, down, and strange quarks. We love the science!
Within the past 10 years “Third Wave Coffee” has started a very gradual trend of taking over a niche market that has yet to be filled for a high-volume, quality driven mobile coffee truck featuring a knowledgeable staff and high quality product.
The idea is simple, bring the concept of high quality coffee to the residents, students and tourists of Lansing and East Lansing, Michigan, on wheels! Strange Matter Coffee will fill this niche. We will offer a significantly higher quality method of preparation and attention to detail, a unique mobile truck servicing East Lansing and Lansing. We will feature coffees from top roasters in the country in order to always feature in-season, delicious, and amazing coffee. Strange Matter Coffee will be inventing a model that is not a cookie-cutter of fast-casual coffee chains, concession, or food trucks. We will be the first multi-roaster coffee truck in the country and the first mobile “Third-Wave” coffee truck in the state. We will be inventing a model that is focused on quality and mobility. This unique model combined with our high-profile locations and flexibility in movement throughout Lansing and East Lansing will provide a mixed customer base that will maintain consistent and high levels of business during all seasons.
How Does It Work and What Will We Offer?
Being mobile will give us the opportunity to visit different neighborhoods and participate in many community events. We intend to build relationships with local businesses and communities to create a solid schedule, in addition to a regular morning spot only blocks away from MSU Campus.
In addition to a traditional espresso beverage menu and auto-drip coffee we will offer hand brewed hot and iced coffee and high quality specialty teas. All of our syrups, sauces and chai will be made in-house. We also plan to partner with a local bakery in order to provide our customers with delicious, fresh pastries.
Where Does The Money Go?
The Kickstarter money will go towards the purchase of our truck. We plan to buy a Chevrolet P10 (if we can find one), or a small Chevrolet P30. Money left from the truck purchase will go towards insurance on the truck.
What If We Exceed Our Goal?
Money raised that exceeds our goal will go towards the build-out of the truck and the exterior design. The remainder will be for our equipment and start-up inventory. There are a lot of laws and regulations involved in the design of the truck. They won't just let us set up an espresso machine on the corner, sadly.
Our truck build-out, interior and exterior will be done by Michigan based business Detroit Custom Coaches.
Our truck will be retrofitted by Detroit Custom Coaches.
Our primary coffee roaster will be Populace Coffee. (our other guest roasters will be from around the country, some based right here in Michigan!)
Our tea will be sourced from Light of Day Organics.
We might park near the capitol building and sell our delicious brew, what is more Michigan than that!
Thank You - You're Awesome!

Risks and challenges
The potential setbacks to our project include permits, licensing and overnight storage. These are all challenges, that if we face, we will overcome through time, educating ourselves related to local laws and regulations and hard work.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
