Cops & Robbers, the card game
The card game of corrupt criminals, devious deals and gripping getaways. ---- "A hilarious and challenging card game" by Devious Games
Down but not out.
Cops and Robbers will be back. The date for the relaunch has not yet been set (6 – 12 months away) but you can keep updated on the facebook page https://www.facebook.com/deviousgamesltd
Or on my twitter feed @deviousgamesltd
Next time we relaunch all of the artwork will be complete. I’ll have some prototypes that will actually look like the full game. Just not made from the printing company I will be using to fulfill all orders.
In the meantime I’m going to be working on some smaller card games to hopefully build a bit of a fan base and run these through Kickstarter. The good thing about these is they will be low cost and shipping should hopefully be at an envelope rate. So Cops and Robbers will be back. I’m thinking 6 – 12 months away.
I will post updates here about any future events.
And here is what the Kickstarter project initially said if anyone is interested
Have you ever wanted to be a criminal mastermind but can never find the time for it in your busy schedule? Have you ever fantasized about making a daring getaway but just find your cheap bicycle is too rusty and broken to reach that top gear? Well your prayers have been answered. Now you can do all this from the safety and comfort of your favourite sitting place. Time to make that seat groove a little more worn while you sit down with your mates for a great game of "Cops and Robbers"; the safe way to rob a bank.
Cops and Robbers is a card game for 2-6 players, ages 8+. The objective of the game is to be the Robber with the most cash at the end of the game. You will need to be the Robber that uses his cards most wisely to steal loot from wherever you can, including your fellow criminals. You'll need to create the fastest getaway car with the best driver if you want to evade the cops and you'll need to play dirty tricks on your opponents to send them to the slammer. The game is quick to pick up, hard to put down, and each game brings something new. With only five cards in your hand will you decide to hold on to the cards that send others to jail or that help you getaway? Will you create the best getaway car only to have it stolen from under your nose? Will you steal from other peoples' stash only to be caught by a nasty surprise? Form alliances with other robbers, then break them to steal their hard earned cash. It's all up to you. The same strategy that worked in one game may not work in the next.
Dan King, Gameboygeek, of The Dice Tower has posted a preview of Cops and Robbers. Here it is for you:
Here's a video I made showing you how to play the game (It's much the same as the Dice Tower version except their version is much more polished)
Anyone pledging at this level ($300) ------------------------------------------------------------------> will receive 5 copies of the game, delivered for free!!!! Give them away as gifts and make everyone jealous of your face on the cards, or just sell them off yourself if you really want to.
Anyone pledging at this level ($500) -------------------------------------------------------------------> will receive 10 copies of the game, delivered for free as well!!!! This amount of packs will let you play the game over and over and never have to worry about losing a card, sucking one up through the vacuum cleaner or getting pizza sauce on them when you use them to serve up mini pizzas. Just open a new pack. Or you could do as above and give them away or sell them.
If you are pledging for this game you will get a pack of 114 cards including rule cards and the Kickstarter exclusive cop, Dirty Larry, in a nicely presented box, plus any extras made through stretch goals.
The pack of cards is split into three decks.
20 Cop cards. These are the cards that tell you how many cops are on your tail.
34 Loot cards. These are the cards that tell you how much loot you have... earned... during the game.
and 54 Robber cards. These are the cards that help you get away from the cops and put other Robbers into jail.
5 Rule Cards. These are double sided rules and fit neatly in with the rest of the pack. They detail how to play the game and also have a breakdown of what each card's purpose is.
These are all printed onto 300gsm card in full colour. These will be sent out in a well presented box with the Cops and Robbers artwork.
I have some nice Kickstarter exclusive cards planned for this project. One is the Dirty Larry Cop card. He's so good at his job he forces Robbers into giving up. This cop is worth 3 cops just by himself.
The exclusive cards will only be available to Kickstarter backers (not print and Play though) and I will use any remaining cards to help keep me warm on those cold winter nights by burning them on the fireplace.
Click for The Rules to view on Scribd. Feel free to download them and flick through as often as you like.
Met the funding goal. Cops & Robbers, the card game, is yours and the kickstarter exclusive card, Dirty Larry!
If we reach 6K we'll include 4 Jail Cards to all levels from Print and Play and up. These will be double sided cards with "JAIL" scrawled on one side and "PAROLE" written on the other. Great for keeping track of who is in jail.
At the moment the art for the game is near completion. All of the Cop cards are finished. All of the Loot cards are finished. The Robber cards are well underway and are nearing completion. The rules have been thoroughly play-tested and are in the final phase of writing up, grammar, clarity, examples, etc. I'm in close contact with a printing company about a five minute drive from where I live about producing the game. They have given me some very competitive prices. The bonus of this is that they are so close to me the turnaround for sorting problems is much quicker and communication is a lot easier. Also I will be able to personally pick up all of the packs thereby cutting down on some extra shipping costs.
My brother, Neil, is doing the art for the game. You can check out his work here for different projects: http://bladien.deviantart.com/gallery/ Also here: http://fineartofneilbillings.blogspot.co.nz/ all of the art throughout this project page shows his work. The work for the game.
He has a Higher National Diploma in animation from the Irish School of Animation, BCFE (Ballyfermot College of further education), Dublin, Ireland, so is well versed in a wide variety of artistic styles.

Thanks for looking at the project.
Risks and challenges
As with all kickstarters not being able to deliver on time is a major risk. I have factored in these times and also added extra on just in case things don't run to plan so I don't believe this will be a problem at all.
Another factor may be that the printing firm may not be able to meet the requirements stipulated to them or the quote I have been given for the cards. I have a few other printing firms in my sights to overcome this problem as well.
Other than the Apocalypse I can't really foresee any problems.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
