About this project
If you have you ever been stuck in a situation where you hopelessly watched the battery in your phone, GPS or other device die, then you definitely know it's not a great feeling. Especially, when a power source is either unavailable or extremely difficult and inconvenient to access.
Introducing "SOL CUFF"
Sol Cuff is a wearable solar battery charger wristband that also features a hands free lighting solution.
Sol Cuff is not just another typical solar charger. That’s because as you wear Sol Cuff, it recharges itself using normal everyday lighting exposure.
So what does this mean for you?
No longer do you have to worry about the recharging up keep of yet another device.
No more lugging around another bulky cumbersome charger in your pockets or purse to cramp your style.
Gone are the days where you have to leave your charger plugged in to an outlet for lengthy amounts of time in order to recharge it.
No more stress over mindfully placing and correctly positioning a solar charger under proper lighting conditions in order to recharge.
No more worries of ever forgetting about having your backup charger when you need it the most.
Sol cuff … it is always there… when and wherever you need it.
Sol Cuff also enables you to have powerful LED lighting around your wrist.
Sol Cuff also provides bright illumination conveniently around your wrist so you can easily see where your going or where you are placing you hands. Motorists and others will be able to see where you are as well. Runners, hikers, campers, fishermen or any activity where light may be needed will greatly benefit from the hands free lighting element of Sol Cuff.
Additionally, Sol Cuff’s lighting feature can assist in law enforcement, security officers, emergency response personnel and countless others.
Below is a picture of a runner in the lower right corner wearing a Sol Cuff on each wrist using the lighting feature.

The Specifications of Sol Cuff:
Below is an unfinished prototype. In this image you are able to see some of what Sol Cuff's is made of.
Rechargeable Lithium Battery, 3.7 volt, 1500 mA capacity
Our Different Designs
Two different prototype's are shown below. The First prototype was made with a direct LED lighting feature design. This is more of a light weight design with only 3 solar panels. It gives about a 30% charge in an hour.
The Second prototype was created with complete radial LED lighting feature for more illumination. This design has 6 solar panels and gives about a 68% charge in an hour but also takes longer to recharge using solar energy.
Both of the prototypes shown above are handmade prototypes.
SOL Cuff Plan and Timeline
Up to this point, all the Sol Cuff prototypes have been made inhouse, by hand. With mass production we will move the Sol Cuff to a full scale production company and produce Sol Cuff using a mold injection process. After several meetings with a large range of manufacturers, we chose a manufacturer that is a perfect fit and will take the Sol Cuff from start to packaged finish.
We estimate the full scale production will begin in January, however, we have allowed a 4 month period between production and shipping to allow room for any problems that may arise during production. This will help assure the project stays on time with all fulfillments.
Protecting Those who Protect Us
As soon as fulfillments are complete we will be donating a number of Sol Cuff's to law enforcement..
The Sol Cuff Team
Our team is a small team, but one with a very large skill set. The SOL Cuff team consist of specialist in mechanical engineering, software and hardware engineering/development, marketing and communications.
How the Funds will be Used
The funds raised will go towards purchasing of raw materials, tooling, testing production, and shipping.
Risks and challenges
SOL CUFF is currently in the manfacturing phase. CAD Drawings are done and production is set to go pending funds. We have a pending Utility Patent.
We have built many functional prototypes in many different designs and have extensively tested each one. We have selected an experienced contract manufacturer after hours of research and meetings. The SOL Cuff is now ready for manufacturing.
In every project launch there are rick and challenges. The SOL Cuff has been tested, designed ... redesigned and modified many times over the last year. During this year we have discovered little bugs and hopefully, worked them all out. Our team all wears a SOL Cuff prototypes, along with some of our family members and they seem to function flawlessly. However, if any unseen delays arise we will always be transparent and inform our backers. From there we will then plan an appropriate course of action.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
