UPDATE: We passed the first goal! 5k in 6 days! Thanks to you we're making this EP. Can you help us raise $10,000???
Here are our big plans for the extra money we raise:
Flex goal #1 -- $10,000: QUALITY! These funds will be used to take the extra time we need in the studio to polish these tracks. They will also be used to produce best quality physical CD's with eco-friendly covers and beautiful cover art. We're pretty clever with budgeting.... so a portion of this money will also go towards making a music video!!! And we will use a portion to buy a PA system so that our live sets match the album sound. All of this will set us up for success as we move forward with our EP launch plan!
Flex goal #2 -- $15,000: SPREADING THE LOVE! These funds will allow us to hire a PR team for four months. They will send our EP out to the top music magazines, radio stations, blogs and media outlets. We need their help to get our music out there!
Healing, Vulnerability, Heart and Beauty: That's what this project is all about!
From this EP you can expect: raw feelings hewn from dreams and heart-break, a sprinkling of hammer dulcimer, and sweet sweet harmonies.
Our project is simple. We’ve spent the last two years refining our sound, encapsulating the joy of creation that we feel. We’ve written and produced 5 of our many songs for this EP that represent the vision and direction of our work. And it's time that we crystallize our songs into something you can nestle into the quiet, spacious parts of your brain. Because as AMAZING and FUN as live performance is, wouldn't it be wonderful to listen to our sweet sounds whenever and where-ever you'd like??? We need to capture this music and get it heard (by you, and you and YOU!). And to do that we need your help!
Please give NOW by choosing a reward to the RIGHT at the highest level that makes sense to you. Every dollar counts. We are so grateful for every donation! Pledge today! Right now!
Seriously, right now would be a good time. :)

This EP is a slightly dark, ethereal, airy set of tracks inspired by wanderlust, heartbreak and retreating into nature. Most of them explore what it's like to be a highly sensitive person in an overwhelming world.
It's the prologue to a full length album that we're half-way through writing.
It includes three reimagined compositions from Annabeth's original repertoire and two of our newest collaboratively written songs.
We took a lot of time to intentionally choose all of the songs on the album based on how well they fit into the voice we're cultivating as Larkspur. Only the songs that have been deeply formed by our collaborative voice were included.
Our influences include: Feist, Donovan, Fleet Foxes, Bjork, the provincial hillsides of France, Appalachian folk, Ariel from The Little Mermaid and spirulina.
Here are some thought nuggets about the songs on the album! Note: Annabeth is the main lyrics-weaver & songwriter on this EP. Laurel & Renee were integral to creative direction, composition and overall song building and composed all of their parts.
In 2011, Annabeth came home to Virginia nursing a broken heart. At the same time, reintegrating into American culture was a shock. "Home" is about the necessity of getting back to her roots and finding stability during a dark Virginia winter. An older song, made darker and more hard-hitting as Larkspur.
"Canyon" is about the caution you take when sharing your body with someone, knowing that your partner doesn't always feel the same way as you do. It's is a sonic journey through the Sonoran Desert landscape where Annabeth lived for 7 years. A new song, written collaboratively.
Annabeth spent 7 months living off the land in a provincial home in Southwestern France. "Lavender" is an amalgam of nostalgic memories about the family she lived with, their dynamics, and the feeling of being in a time-out-of-time. A new song, written collaboratively.
Other songs on the EP = Lion Tamer, Singasong.
WHY DO YOU NEED FUNDS?
Hey that's a great question! This is our first project as Larkspur and it is really the "KICKSTART" to our dreams (see what we did there???).
We are proud to be independent musicians, as it allows us the creative flexibility to make music that is 100% authentic to our vision. But hey fun fact the music industry is kinda broken, so it's very difficult for working musicians to fund their own recordings. So instead of getting hitched up with a label, we're asking you to be our label!
We believe in these songs, and we believe in our calling to share them with you. YOU are the reason we do what we do, so we want YOU to be a part of it all!
We're doing this whole project on the cheap. $5000 for a 5 song EP is unheard of in the music industry! This EP should really cost $10,000 but our producer believes so passionately in the music that he helped us create a realistic budget!
YOUR SUPPORT will fund the entire EP: studio time, producer, engineer, players (our producer tracked live instruments as well), digital editing, mixing, mastering, album artwork and replication! To save money we will be hand-painting the kraft paper covers for our physical CDs.
This Minimum Project Budget chart tells you three things. 1: Personnel, professional studio costs and shoe-string duplication make up 80% of the budget. 2: We're not asking for money to cover fun extras, like promo materials so people (other than you and the three of us) can hear it. 3. Kickstarter fees and rewards fulfillment makes up 16% of the budget (holy moly!).
Our stretch goal of $10,000 gives us the flexibility to:
1. Pay for extra studio time / production / mastering
2. Manufacture higher quality physical copies of the EP
3. Create a music video!!!
4. Buy a used PA system so that our live sets match the sound of the album.
"Recording Costs" include:
-Paying Jake Hull, our one-man producer / arranger / recording engineer / guest musician / artistic visionary
-Paying for studio time at Collector Studio in Norfolk, VA.
-Paying for mixing and mastering the EP.
"Manufacturing Costs" include:
-Printing 500 physical copies of the EP in CD form + handmade covers for each.
-Paying our visual artists for any design necessary for the EP and backer rewards.
"Kickstarter Fees + Reward Fulfillment Costs" include:
- Kickstarter takes a 5% fee from the funds collected.
- Amazon payments takes another 3-5% for credit card processing.
- Our estimated printing and mailing expenses for Kickstarter rewards (excluding shipments outside the US, to which a shipping fee is added).
-Up-front costs of Kickstarter reward items.

Risks and challenges
We have very few risks! We are confident that we will be wildly successful, thanks to your support!
The delivery date for the rewards is an estimation. Please keep in mind that we'll be doing everything we can to ship rewards as soon as possible! We are hand-making a few of the rewards (crowns, chocolate, hand-painted CD covers) so that may delay us slightly.
Other than that, we have very few risks. The project will be ready for pre-release very soon after the campaign ends!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
