In March of 2016 tabletop game designers all over the world will log on to their computers to attend the first ever Tabletop Designer Summit. The Summit will feature some of the best tabletop game designers from all corners of the industry speaking about specific topics that designers like you want to know most about.
The Tabletop Designer Summit 2016 is the first ever online conference just for aspiring tabletop game designers. You'll be able to learn from some of the best designers out there about what they do to ensure they are providing the very best games they can to the public.
The standard industry conventions are great for getting your game out into the public, but for the most part these are for the board game consumer. The Tabletop Designer Summit is for you, the designer, to learn and engage with those who do what you do.
We want to expand the hobby. What better way than to give aspiring designers around the world the ability to get a master class from the designers we know and love.
Richard Durham - The Board Game Designer's Forum
This isn't a traditional webinar. The Tabletop Designer Summit is a two week interactive virtual conference. Interact LIVE with other attendees, participate in Q&A's with each speaker, download speaker exclusives, and take part in Summit giveaways!
At the base level of funding we will be providing 1 unique login for each presentation. Each session will include a presentation given by a successful game designer with some providing downloadable pdf decks for you to keep. With a full access ticket you will be able to download the video and audio of each session once the event has ended.
In addition we will be having Summit giveaways available to attendees who have a Basic or Full Access ticket. The giveaways will include hot games, credit for industry tools such as prototyping services and marketing credits, and more!
Plus, every attendee from the Download Ticket to the Full Access Ticket will receive a digital copy of Tabletop Torch's "The 2015 Tabletop Design & Marketing Rulebook" ebook and the Summit Swag download full of great digital content from our Swag Sponsors!

Networking is an important part of conferences and it's no different for the Tabletop Designer Summit. We've put together a couple of different interactive ways to communicate with other Summit goers during the event.
The first thing we've put together is an exclusive Facebook group for all past, present and future attendees. You can join that group now by visiting this link.
The second form of networking we are utilizing will be a Twitter chat. There will be more details on this as we move forward. We'll announce more about this in the updates soon.

We've put together a fantastic combination of sponsorship opportunities at the Summit. There are a few reasons why it makes so much sense to become a sponsor at the Tabletop Designer Summit.
If you are a publisher you will have access to a large group of people completely engaged in our industry. Designers are also gamers and they love hearing about the new hotness.
If you are an independent designer then this is a good opportunity to get your project out into the world and in front of others who will not only want to play your game but will provide fantastic feedback, too!
We've put together a document describing each of these sponsorship levels in more detail. You can access that document HERE.
So who's speaking, you ask? We've already got a great line up for you with more to come!
All of the Tabletop Designer Summit speakers will be talking about specific topics in the industry such as:
- RPG 101
- Iconography design insights
- Theme in board games
- Integrating technology in tabletop gaming
- Breaking into the industry
- Player profiles
- And much more!
As we get closer to March we will continue to add new speakers. We'll update you here and on our website tabletoptorch.com/ttdsummit with announcements.
The Summit schedule will also begin getting populated as we get closer and we will keep you updated every step of the way!
Javier Palenzuela - Critical Hit Media
Maybe the coolest thing about the Tabletop Designer Summit is that it takes place completely online. This means that after you get your ticket there is nothing else to worry about besides logging in to attend the sessions once they start.
Let's look at a traditional convention. Even one where you can get to relatively easily by driving.
- You'll need an event ticket: $90 for 4 days
- Lodging close by the event location: $300
- Food for the duration: $160
- Two days out of work: $320
That's $870! And if you have to fly? You are easily going to be over $1,000!
Because you can attend the Tabletop Designer Summit from your couch all you have to worry about is your ticket - $35 or $50. That's it!
Matthew Gravelyn - Designing Cardboard
Another great thing about the Summit being online is that we aren't restricted to two or three days. We've been working with the conferencing service providers to allow us to spread the Tabletop Designer Summit out over two weeks.
Sessions will run on EST for two weeks during the month of March of 2016. There will be two sessions a day beginning at 5:30PM for three days a week. Each session will run for a total of 60 minutes.
The presentation portion of a session will run for 30-45 minutes and then the remainder of the time will be opened up to you to ask the speaker questions. Get your questions ready!
- Week 1 will include: March 8, 9, 10
- Week 2 will include: March 15, 16, 17
Dylan Flynn - Tabletop Torch
The team at Tabletop Torch is a group of aspiring game designers and contributors to tabletop media.
In addition to the content of each reward, you will also recieve Tabletop Torch's ebook 2015 Tabletop Design & Marketing Rulebook at every level!
There are great opportunities to sponsor the Tabletop Designer Summit. Each level comes with a package of Full Access tickets to the event!
We are a group of aspiring game designers ourselves and we've been trying to figure out a way to expand awareness for our hobby and industry. The fact is that any industry you look at has a premiere conference to further the craft of those heavily involved. But tabletop design doesn't yet have that.
Sure we have large cons full of games and gamers, but they are for the consumer for the most part. We want to change that and we need your help to bring it to life. Because designers are located all over the world we believe that providing a virtual conference is the best way to do it.
The fact is that the hardware, software, scheduling and time commitment it takes to bring a conference like this to life costs a lot of money. We are looking to the designers out there who want this event to happen to help us make it a reality.
Together let's bring the Tabletop Designer Summit to life!
Risks and challenges
Our largest challenge is getting the Summit funded. We feel that the tabletop community has accepted Kickstarter as a means to bring great projects to life and wants an event like we are planning to build. Once funding is completed we will begin scheduling sessions and working with our speakers to build great presentations for you. Because there is no manufacturing or shipping there is very little risk involved.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
