About this project
Wide, Ventilated, Waterproof, Quick-release straps
for Pebble Time and Pebble Time Steel
We love Pebble.
Have since the beginning. Two years ago, we designed WIDE BODY, the first silicone strap built specifically for the original Pebble. We launched it right here on Kickstarter. And last year, we introduced SHANK for Pebble Steel. Our simple goal with our watch straps was to make Pebble smart watches look great and work great. Now we’re doing it again with HAMMER.
HAMMER is wider. The HAMMER strap is 28 mm wide. Time’s stock straps are 22 mm wide. We were able to fit the wider HAMMER on Time by designing a couple of notches into our straps. We grew HAMMER wider so that it seems to extend directly from Time’s lugs. Rugged. Sport watch. Solid. Bad-ass. You’ll find your own way to describe it. HAMMER just makes your Time look great.
HAMMER is extremely ventilated. If you run or do anything else that makes you sweat, HAMMER’s vent holes transform Pebble Time into a true sport watch. And on the long side of the strap, some of the vent holes double as buckle holes. Because those buckle holes run all the way up the strap, HAMMER is extraordinarily adjustable. It fits great on both large wrists and small wrists. HAMMER is also waterproof. Run with it. Sweat on it. Wash your hands. Swim! Go nuts.
HAMMER is made from silicone. Silicone is the same material used on Time’s stock straps, and it is prized for its softness and flexibility. It’s strong, too. The buckle is made from brushed stainless steel. And stainless steel quick-release spring bars allow you to swap straps whenever you feel like it!
We're going to make HAMMER in five different colors: black, white, red, citrus, and camouflage. Most people choose black. That's just the way it goes. It looks awesome! White is white. Red will match as closely as possible to the color that Pebble uses on their red straps. Citrus is our own vibrant lime color. And camo is just plain bad-ass.
Here is some video of Pebble Time (in white) and HAMMER (also white).
Our small product development company, UTENSILE, has worked on smart watches and wearables for some of the biggest brands in the world. But we love to do our own accessory products, like HAMMER, too!
And that’s why we turn to you on Kickstarter. We’ve taken the project through pre-production prototyping. The samples look pretty good, right? Now, to get HAMMER into full production, we need your help.
We know that most people who will back this project are also Pebble Time backers, so you already know how this works. Your pledge will fund our production tooling, assembly, logistics and many of our other product development expenses. In turn, backers will be rewarded with our watch straps.
Here's a side-by-side composite photo (we only have one Pebble Time so far!) that shows HAMMER straps and regular straps. After careful analysis, you should be able to conclude that HAMMER straps are wide, ventilated, and awesome.
Finally, Check out that photo down there. Those are three generations of straps from all of us at Richard Tracy Brand! From left to right: Wide Body is on the original "OG" Pebble, Shank is on Steel, and HAMMER of course fits on Pebble Time and Pebble Time Steel. I hope you can see that our vision for our products is simple: our straps make your Pebble look awesome.
Risks and challenges
The video and images on this project page include CAD models, 3D printed prototypes, and pre-production silicone samples because HAMMER isn't in production yet--we need your help to get us there! We'll do our best to exceed your expectations of what silicone straps can look like, but there's always a risk that we might not meet your expectations.
We want you to know that this risk is minimal because we have designed, developed, and produced high quality watch straps many times. This isn’t our first rodeo—we know what we're doing! And if you had a WIDE BODY or SHANK strap for the previous generations of Pebble, then you know that we can deliver the goods.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
