GET TO THE QUARANTINE ZONE
Greetings fans of table-top games and zombies, I present you Get to the Quarantine Zone. This is my second game I've made and based on the lessons learned from the last game, I'm proud to say this will be a game worthy of your time and backing. REMEMBER: shipping is included.
Get to the Quarantine Zone (QZ) is a part card game / part board game RPG set in the mid 1800's in a place called Cherry Creek, Colorado. The mining town it is set in was quite wealthy and bustling with business until one day people started getting sick. After the sickness, many died. After they died, many got back up and started eating the living! It wasn't long before word spread that this was happening all over the country. Quickly, everyone left town as fast as they could heading toward a "Quarantine Zone" they heard of in Boulder, Colorado. You and a small group of other survivors got the last wagon in town and headed to Boulder. It wasn't long before the wagon broke catastrophically and you were all stranded. You set up a basic camp and decided to make missions into town to get supplies and parts for the wagon. Once fixed, you will be ready to Get to the Quarantine Zone.
The basic game comes with the following:
1 -"Camp" mat (10x10 play mat); 9 - "Player" Mats (One 4 x 10 for each possible character); 2 - 6 sided dice; 1 - Counter Clip; 2 - "Blood Drop" Tokens; 40 - Tokens; 1 - 50 card ZOMBIE DECK; 1 - 50 card MISSION DECK; 1 - 110 card LOOT DECK; 1 - 10x10 box.
The game is fairly simple with 2 MODES OF PLAY: Campaign and Survival.
Campaign Mode is the main form of Play in which players will assume the role of a survivor. You need at least 3 people to start the game as there is a steep level of difficulty to the game. Each player has a perk and/or comes with Loot which will help you complete Missions. Missions are listed on cards which you will complete the task or kill the prescribed amount of zombies (or combination thereof) to get Loot and Parts. Parts are the resource you need to fix the wagon and leave to the QZ. Loot are items and weapons you'll use to make killing zombies and completing tasks possible or easier. There are a lot of moral decisions to make in the Missions. Sometimes you may be asked to try to save someone's life and although it may make things very hard, there are rewards for success and punishment for failure. The karma system in this game makes the game harder for you each time you do something that might weigh in on your soul negatively. Sometimes you just have to make a tough decision and this can impact you. Other times, Missions might require you have a certain Loot card or complete some task with a certain ability and if you don't have them, you may have to just do things a certain way because it is the only way. This can cause you to accelerate the amount of zombies attacking you by gaining negative karma.
This is the camp (show above). This is where you keep extra loot and keep count of the parts you have on the right side (clip counter included). At the top you'll see a series of boxes with numbers in them. You get a red blood gem with the game that progresses on these boxes from left to right, top to bottom, once each round and once for each karma point you take. The number in the box is the additional amount of zombie card you draw when it is time to fight zombies. The clear motive here is to win quickly. The green box is where you start if you are playing 3 player, yellow box is 4, and 5+ players start on red.
Below are a few of the character mats
Survival Mode allows players to load out their character however they choose and take on wave after wave of zombie madness. Each round the players draw more zombies making survival that much more unlikely. The object isn't really to win, just see how long you can last. You do this by placing the blood drop gem on the first red square and each time every player has taken a turn, you move the gem forward and draw that many zombies. This happens until everyone dies or until you reach the end. This is a great way to train yourself on how best to use the characters, their skills, and the Loot.
What are the basic gameplay mechanics?
Simply put, you will use the loot in your hands and the skills on your character mat to roll dice in order to kill zombies or achieve goals. Strategy comes into play when certain character skill enhance the likelihood of success or failure given a criteria. Loot will constantly come into play as there are many dynamics of the game that change based on what kind of Loot you have picked up along the way. Certain missions will be dark and if you don't have a lantern in the party, you may get penalties to dice rolls because you can't see so well. Sometimes you'll encounter other survivors and since they aren't as dumb as zombies, they may require convincing, trading, or beguiling to avoid dangerous conflict. The threat of dying in this game is very real and each player is given the ability to respawn once as another player. Once all respawns are gone, you lose.
You win when you have fixed the wagon AND fought the boss battle at the end. The boss battle includes fighting a zombie card known as The Blight, which is very tough. You fight him along with as many zombies as you have racked up on the blood gem counter in the center of the table. Again, your choices and timeliness catches up with you. This game has a theme about choice and fate.
Combat is very simple. If you see the SKELETAL zombie card above, you'll notice the bottom two numbers "6" and "3" The yellow number on the left is the dice roll number the zombie must make to hit you (pretty puny eh? but if you have enough of them around, the odds catch up with you) and the number on the right is the number of successes you need to make in order to kill it. Successes are determined by dice rolls and modifiers based on your Loot and/or abilities. It's simple enough, but the game will punish you if you get too cocky.
Show me some backer reward goodies.
What makes me believe you'll deliver what you say?
This is my second game and after the issues we ran into with the last, I've learned a lot about making games and whom you can trust to produce what you need. We are proud to announce we will be going through TheGameCrafter.com for our production means. ALL of our production will stay in the USA to avoid the problems we faced with the last game.
Speaking of the last game, if you were a previous backer, let me know and you will be given a special upgrade on the dice and if you order the game with ONE of the expansions, you will get the other free. This is my way of saying "Thanks for giving me a second chance." This offer is only good with previous successful backers and upon the successful backing of the $55 game or better.
We are also proud to be sponsored by Sign Art Etc. As you will see in our video, we have a wonderful backdrop, courtesy of Sign Art Etc. This team of graphic artists and production masters make banners, signs, big checks and, of course, step and repeat backdrops. They were quick to help us out and help make this as fantastic as possible. If you need a backdrop for a birthday party or a banner for your event, these guys are the best. Go to www.signartetc.com
Shut up and take my money! When can I have it?
While it is not a promised date, our goal is to have the game in your hands for the Christmas holiday. We are using The Game Crafter, which has a great reputation for completing these tasks in a timely manner. The game is READY TO GO. We have already printed a copy that is fully playable. When the Kickstarter is completed, we will simply place the bulk order for all of the copies with necessary backer rewards.
OUR GOAL IS TO HAVE YOU PLAYING THIS GAME BY CHRISTMAS! This would make a killer Christmas gift (or whatever holiday you might or might not celebrate).
Tell me about the add-on expansions!
In the backer rewards, you'll see us tempting you with these mentioned add-ons: ENRAGED and STEAM PUNK packs. Each pack comes with extra character mats, zombies, loot and missions (respectively) to expand the game. While these may be offered in the future, they are currently Kickstarter exclusives. As the name implies, the ENRAGED pack has a lot of very angry, very strong zombies and players all dealing with their rage issues. Expect the zombies to be able to power up as the more you beat them, the tougher they get. There will be characters with this feature too, so at least it isn't one sided. The STEAMPUNK pack will feature STEAMPUNK themed players, loot and missions.
Risks and challenges
With the last game, we ran into the trouble of getting the art done on time, then we used an overseas company for production which ended up being a scam. This time we are avoiding this issue by using The Game Crafter. The game is ready to print and needs no additional work. While we expect that the demand will be met by the manufacturer, we want to at least humor the notion that production delays may occur.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
