As much as I'd like a solar generating shade system, just shy of 400 seems a little on the spendy side, especially seeing as to how I'll most likely be getting my solar system from Legion Solar whom I funded here last summer.
Maybe if I had the funds I'd consider it, but $400 for a 100-watt system (never did get an efficiency percentage) for a window space that's only 8.33 square feet (not to mention the windows that do get sun are awfully obstructed by the front yard landscaping), I just can't justify this right now.
I am however very very curious so here's a dollar for my train ticket. Perhaps if the prices come down or a dumb version comes out with a lower price, maybe I'll be interested then.

@Creator, please give me technical details, what parts should I buy extra beside the Medium-Sized tier to get autonomous 220V all the 24h? Can I just add the funds to the pledge to get it from you all-in-one package (maybe without battery as it is heavy, but with the list of market available UPS' batteries supported by included circuitry)? Probably, you can add the answer to the FAQ. I'm in Ukraine (this note is for shipping costs reason).

When responding to your critique yesterday, I forgot to mention two very important facts. First, since major quantity of warmth is coming inside the building through the windows, SolarGaps will prevent the building from overheating and thus AC will need to work much less. SolarGaps can help you to save up to 70% of your energy costs if you have huge windows and about 30% if you have small windows.
Second, on average, the energy consumption of apartments is considerably lower than the energy consumption of houses. Hence for those living in apartments SolarGaps will compensate a bigger portion of their energy bill than for those living in houses.

Here is the response from out technical team regarding the type of a battery you may need.
The capacity of your battery depends on the actual fish tank consumption. We suppose about 12V 15 Ah is going to be ok. The most common battery type is AGM, it's the one that is used in UPS systems. The battery itself shouldn't be more than $50, but it will need some circuitry as well. You can look for it on Amazon, for example.

Yes, by adding enough money for two sets of blinds (whichever sizes you like) and leaving a note for us where your describe the precise quantity of blinds you order and their sizes, you will get two blinds.
Depending on how you decide to apply them in your house, you will need either a grid tie inverter (if you decide to connect SolarGaps to the grid) or a battery. Batteries we do not provide, but as mentioned, you will hear back from us soon regarding a battery.

Or am I limited to the sizes in the pledges? 32" x 36" seems like the closest size to my windows... Note: my house was build in 1940, so the windows are smaller than what's popular in the newer homes.

The glass size for my window of 26" X 45". An additional couple of inches each way to also include the sash for the opening. I'm looking for an approximate cost after kickstarter for a blind that would fit that window size. Also how much would a battery cost for that approximate size window?

- After the campaign is finished, we will contact you and send the refund to the account with the information of which you will provide us.
2. Please tell us if all the tiers include charging controller for external battery and does the invertor included?
- Charging controller is not included in any of our rewards, as majority of customers will not need it. This controller may be ordered extra for about $10. Regrading the inverters, they are included for free in custom-sized bundles. For other rewards, inverters may be ordered extra for $90-120 (depending on the system size).

We appreciate your critique. Now, let me address it in a constructive way. The amount of savings on the energy bill up to 70% was calculated based on real life cases. For instance, I live with my family in Nevada and more than 70% of our energy bill ($100 of $140 total) in summer is comprised of the AC costs. If we install SolarGaps only on our windows – 4 windows and a patio window (not to mention, that it is possible also to install SolarGaps on the walls), the energy it produces would be more than what we need to power our AC, which would reduce our energy bill to more than 70%.
Now, I would like to explain a bit more how what I mentioned above is feasible with a smaller area covered by SolarGaps than the one solar panels on the roof would cover. While solar roof tops stay at the same angle during the day (which is not the most efficient way to absorb solar energy), SolarGaps automatically adjusts the angle of the panels to follow the sun’s position, absorbing in this way as much solar energy as possible.

1) How much would a custom sized blind for a window with a glass size of 26" X 45" run. - 26" X 45" = 8.1 sq.ft. = set if small-sized SolarGaps. Please understand that to make precise calculations, I would need to know the size of your window frame and then I will still need to add extra 2-3 inches to each measurement (L & W) to install SolarGaps in the way that they are not letting the sun light through in the closed position.

I mean I don't want to be the guy to pee in everyone's cereal. But reduce your energy use by up to 70%. This project isn't a bad idea, why not put solar generators in blinds, but it's clearly snake oil. Real solar panels (the huge ones on your roof) can realistically do ~30% of your power consumption. Now consider that they're way bigger than these solar blinds and generally will have more rooftop space to work with with more energy space. If your entire south facing wall was made of glass and you lived in arizona these things wouldn't be able to get near to 70%.. Well I guess they could if you don't use any power.
I think this project is a great idea and deserves attention, but having a bold faced claim like up to 70% of your power by these is at best unbelievable naive and at worst fraud.

I am glad to provide you with the responses here.
To power your aquarium 24x7 only by the electricity produced by SolarGaps, you will need to have a battery installed, where all the electricity produced by SolarGaps will be stored, because SolarGaps produce electricity only when there is sun light, so only during the day. Otherwise, you can connect SolarGaps to your grid, and all the electricity produced by SolarGaps will go to the grid powering your aquarium during the day, while at night your aquarium will be powered by the electricity provided by your utility. In the same exact way your AC unit will be working.
Now, I will address your questions.
1) How much would a custom sized blind for a window with a glass size of 26" X 45" run. I like the idea of the getting a 30% discount, but need to know approximately how much I would be taking 30% off of.
– The 30% can be applied to the unlimited amount of SolarGaps ordered before December 2017.
2) Can I pledge more and get the 30% discount on two sets of blinds?
– All the prices on Kickstarter are already with 50% discount from the retail price, thus it is not possible to apply the 30% additional discount to them. Only future orders after the Kickstarter campaign ends will be with the 30% discount for those who purchased the discount now.

Greetings. This sounds like an awesome idea. I have an aquarium that I would like to know will always have power. Optionally, I'd like to know if it would store enough energy to run a small window AC unit.
