Good News: We Succeeded!
With ten days left in our campaign, we surpassed our original funding goal! That means, unless several backers revoke their pledge at the last minute, we're going to publish When God Wrecks Your Romance! Thank you so much to all of our backers, and to everyone who has spread the word about this project.
More Good News:
If we hit our new stretch goal of $15,000, I will record an acoustic musical performance of 12 original songs to enhance the audiobook narration! I'm thrilled about this possibility. Please check out our "updates" for more details.
My First Book... And Now, Music to Set the Stage!
I’ve been consistently producing artistic content for 16 years. Of all the projects I’ve had the honor of releasing, When God Wrecks Your Romance is the dearest to my heart. It’s everything I love most, wrapped up in one piece. If we meet our stretch goal to add music recordings to the audiobook, my excitement level will be off the charts.
How Will I Do It?
Just like I produce my music, I'm turning to my family, friends, and fans to help make this vision a reality.
After two and a half years of writing, the manuscript is complete! Some very generous sponsors already underwrote the audiobook narration. The only remaining costs were the printing and editing. Although it was more money than my family and I could cover on our own, our funding goal was doable in the past. With the help of many generous backers, we met our goal again this time!
Amanda & Matt
I’m a full-time recording artist. I’m married to David: the kindest, most handsome, hardest-working man I know. We live in Phoenix, AZ with our four spunky children. This fall, they’ll be ages 2, 4, 6, and 8.
While I’m traveling the world, singing at churches, universities, and sometimes even stadiums, David manages my career from home while also caring for our kids.
Before we started dating each other, David told me “I’d like to really raise my kids someday. I’d like to have my own company so I can be a stay-at-home dad.” At the time I asked myself, “Why is he telling me this?” Now I see. Cheers to living our dreams together.
The co-author of this book is my unlikely best friend, Fr. Matt Fase, CSC. He was a hilarious boy in a bright red sun visor when we first met. Back then, he was shorter than I was, with a higher voice than mine. Oh, how times have changed.
That funny, freckled kid grew up to become a Catholic priest. Fr. Matt holds a bachelor’s degree in theology and a master’s of divinity from the University of Notre Dame. He professed Perpetual Vows to the Congregation of Holy Cross on September 13, 2014. Since his priestly ordination in 2015, he has served as the associate Pastor of Holy Redeemer Church in Portland, Oregon, and as the Campus Minister for Retreats and Athletic Chaplain of Stonehill College.
What others are saying...
After reading our sample chapters:
“...I am absolutely and 100% intrigued and totally falling in love with this book. My heart sank a little when I got to the end! If I had the copy in print I would literally not be able to put it down.”
- Catherine Shaw, Undergrad student at Aquinas College in Grand Rapids, Michigan
“I love every bit of it. I think the book does an excellent job of conveying an important tone while also showing how wonderful it is to live a life for Christ.”
- David Bridge, Seminarian for the Diocese of Grand Rapids
“I couldn't put this book down as I was reading it off my phone. I was super happy to see that you included some catechesis in the story, such as the Theology of the Body, and how well you explained the importance and beauty of it. The story is also very detailed, which made it super easy for me to see it all play out in my imagination.”
- Elizabeth Vega, Early twenties, San Francisco Bay Area
After reading the full-length manuscript:
“Far from being a sappy romantic story with a predictable ending, When God Wrecks Your Romance is a beautiful, honest, and faith-filled account of love and the human desire for true happiness. At times thought-provoking, at other times touching and tender, these reflections are honest and real. We are not used to this level of sharing between two people who had romantic feelings toward each other but did not act on them. Instead of disappointing us, we find ourselves cheering for them and for the vocations they have chosen. And we find that God was answering their prayers all along; just not in the way they originally intended. This is a reminder to us all that if we open our hearts to what God really wants for us – that is, our ultimate happiness – then we will cooperate with God’s will and truly be happy.”
- Bishop William Wack, CSC, Diocese of Pensacola-Tallahassee
"This book was a joy to read. I especially enjoyed hearing the same events, the same conversations, described by both Amanda and Fr. Matt. However, as enjoyable as that was, I think the real value of this book rests in how it presents genuine love and intimacy. We've come to associate these things with romance and sex, but their story shows how the love between friends can draw the best out of us, can make us better people, can make us holy."
- Paul Fahey, Director of Religious Education, Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Fowler, MI
Risks and challenges
I see two major risks to completing this project and fulfilling the rewards:
1. My voice.
Screaming on a roller coaster isn’t, apparently, advisable for a recording artist. Thus, I sustained a significant vocal injury two years ago. Even though healthier vocal practices have helped, there’s a chance my voice won’t be strong enough to narrate the book within our predicted timeframe.
2. Matt’s Vocation.
Fr. Matt has vowed obedience to the Congregation of Holy Cross. That means, where they send him, he will go. Currently, his assignment at Stonehill College allows for enough flexibility to finish and promote this project. However, if his congregation suddenly assigns him elsewhere, autographing books might take a back seat for a while.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
