Many people want to install solar panels on their roof tops too, but their local home owners association won't allow them to. Others try solar backpacks, solar cell phone chargers, or even solar RV packs from Home Depot. The problem with most of these is that they won't work without an all-day sun exposure, and they barely provide enough of a charge to justify using them. Worst of all, they won’t work at the slightest appearance of night or even in rainy days.
Our approach is to focus the use of solar energy on smaller and simpler things, such as a basic wall clock. Almost every household has a wall clock. A solar-powered wall clock only needs two hours of direct sunlight to run perfectly without the use of batteries. This means no more having to remember to buy or change the batteries… no more wasting money… and no more dumping harmful chemicals into landfills that take years and years to break down safely.
Solardy offers a solar upgrade kit to power your wall clock, the cost saving is not in your pocket, but it’s the time to change battery annually and the cost to the environment. To use the Solardy upgrade kit, you only need to have at least two hours of (through- the-window) direct sunlight on the wall or area of your desk where you put the solar power kit. Also, the wall clock must not be the type that consumes so many batteries that they need to be changed more than three times a year.
We built the kit elegantly to blend in your home decor. You can just buy our core kit and buy any other nice fit photo frame of your choice to fit your need. You don't need any electronic knowledge or solder tools to install it. Any high school kid can do it, or even a young child.
Your contributions will bring you a great solution to those endless double AA batteries that require regular replacements or always get lost for some reason, AND will help the world sustain better because of less disposal of harmful battery chemicals. How it works
The Solardy solar cell AA upgrading kit consists of four major components.
1. Solar cell
2.Power storage unit (PSU)
Dummy AA/AAA conductor
4.Solar cell bracket.
The Solardy kit is a 4-inch diameter round Mono-Crystalline Silicon Solar Cell that provides 1watt of peak power.
The PSU stores energy from the solar cell and constantly provides 1.5 or 3V as selected through the switch.
To power up common household electronic devices, we decided to create AA and AAA connectors. So you just hook up the PSU with your device by inserting the AA/AAA connector, and it will provide power to your device. In order to power up a 3V device which commonly uses two AA batteries, you will need a dummy AA/AAA conductor to dispatch the power to the battery chamber in the device.
To hold the solar cell nicely and to make it look pleasant, we decided to use a round shaped solar cell and a photo frame as the bracket. In line with our goal, it doesn't matter what kind/shape of solar cell or what kind of bracket you use. We just want it to look good.
Because we expect this to be in a room where there will be at least two hours of sun exposure every day, and we do not expect you to move it towards the sun every hour, so the two hour sunlight exposure should power up small devices with ease. If you live in a place where there will be more than a week of cloudy days, then you should watch out for our next version with bigger solar cells and bigger PSU internal batteries.
Current status and future plans
Currently, we have a basic working prototype. We want to launch this project to create an awareness of aesthetic designs in solar cell or green energy. Also, we do not want people dumping more battery chemicals in landfills.
The production schedule is depends on the fundraising campaign. Once we get fully funded, it will take 45 days to produce the product. During the campaign, we continue to improve the design.
If this project is successfully funded, we can also provide a platform that will allow people to send in their most memorable picture, for us to transform it into a custom solar cell for them. So, it may look like a regular photo frame on the desk, but essentially it is a solar panel that powers up your desk clock or whatever project you wish to do.
If possible, we also want to involve handy craftsmen that can provide or sell their solar cell bracket. This is to encourage local craftsmen to participate in green energy with less effort, and there’s no tedious electronic knowledge necessary.
Risks and challenges
We are really excited about launching the solar cell upgrade kit project. However, the most important aspect of this project is that we fulfill our promise to you, our backers!
We have put a lot of work into designing and building the first prototypes, but as a hardware project we are also aware that there will be challenges in areas of manufacturing, production, shipping worldwide and more. Our promise is that we'll rise to meet all these challenges and more, with the combined experience and passion our team brings to this project.
We've given a conservative estimate for our delivery dates. We are committed to keeping you informed of our progress both during and after our campaign. We assure you that we are all working very hard to produce a sensational product that not only arrives on time but is of optimum quality!
