"Sisters of the Cloth" Project
"Sisters of the Cloth " depicts a battle with an innocent young woman with battle lines that the enemy was not PREPARED to cross.
Have you ever been told that you couldn't do something, but you tried anyway? In the 1980s, I was told that my stage plays would NEVAH appear in a certain theatre. I continued writing, saw my plays on other stages- more than 40 of them, but never in THAT theatre. Hurt & feeling rejected, I finally understood that they only produced imports & noted works, not original plays.
This year, I submitted my play, "Sisters of the Cloth," to the inaugural Women's Theatre Festival of Memphis (Aug. 2 - 4, 2012), and it was accepted as the mainstage production! The irony is that it will be presented at The Circuit Playhouse-the VERY THEATRE THAT HAD REJECTED MY WORK IN THE 80's! I retired in 2010 due to congestive heart failure but despite my illnesses and challenges, I am determined that this story is presented with the highest standards of theatrical production.
Set in 1945, a beautiful young Leora Mosby returns home to her family after discovering bad news about her NEW husband. Jealous neighbors hatch a dastardly plot to rid the neighborhood of Leora's presence. Her cloth/scarf wearing female family members figure heavily into ending the plot, as it seems men fall into the spell of those who wear these cloths. I am soliciting your pledges in hopes to cover production costs on this large stage. Presentation is 50% of anything; you don't serve steak on a garbage can! Won't you please help make this happen?
