In the third and second century before Christ Rome wages war against Carthage, the biggest power in the Mediterranean. The final defeat of Carthage will ultimately lead to Rome conquering much of the known world and becoming the biggest empire the world had seen, shaping Western civilization until the present.
Different military decisions and a shift in fortune would have changed the course of history. Players of 265 BCE take on one of the powers of the era and rewrite history as they set out to conquer the world.
The goal of this Kickstarter campaign is to raise enough money to develop the first prototype of the exciting new 2-4 person strategy and conquest board game, 265 BCE. Eventually, the aim is to have 265 BCE available in stores for thousands of gamers who dream of stepping into the shoes of generals, leading large armies to conquer swaths of land. 265 BCE promises to be the most realistic and fun strategy board game for ages 8 to adult.
The money raised through Kickstarter will be used to develop the actual pieces, designs and other elements of the board game. Only a dozen high quality versions of this first prototype will be created, which will in turn be used to entice investors to bring 265 BCE to a large audience.
The breakdown of the costs is as follows:
- Planning & Development: $750
- Designing: $1,000
- Printing & Production: $2,000
- Trademark & Copyright Registration: $1,000
- Incidentals & Miscellaneous: $500
Each player selects one of the military powers in 265 BCE; Rome, Carthage, Egypt or the Seleucid Empire. These empires consist of separate regions and are surrounded by barbarian territories as it was in the middle of the third century before Christ.
Each player starts with a number of legions and military treasury. The turns correspond to a season, starting with spring 265 BCE. Each turn consists of four steps which includes the option of raiding or conquering another territory. The winner of the game is the player who conquers the capital region(s) of the other player(s).
This game play occurs on a trifold map board. The unique element of 265 BCE, however, is that when players decide to conquer a territory of an opposing player they fight out the battle on a battlefield board. Here their armies are split up in cohorts of archers, slingers, cavalry, infantry, etc. This is where strategy will really come into play as this is where the biggest gains or losses will happen.
Risks and challenges
As we've split out this project into two phases, with the first phase being the development of a high quality prototype, we aim to minimize the risks.
The biggest challenge will be to find an affordable and talented designer who can bring to life the plans and ideas we have.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
