About this project
About Our Young Artists and This Project:
Out of over 800 applicants nationwide, eleven dedicated young musicians from the Music Academy of Tucson, Arizona were awarded Gold and Silver medals in the Golden Key Festival competition this winter after auditions with Dr. George Borisov, founder of the Golden Key Festival. With the awards came an invitation to perform at one of the most prestigious music halls in the world, Carnegie Hall.
Students will be performing with notable guest artists Müller, Urska Babic, and Gaku Sugibayashi, Piano, and Nathan Kay, Tenor, Friday, May 25, 2012 at Weill Recital Hall, Carnegie Hall 154 West 57th Street New York, NY.
This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for our students, as well as an honor, to represent Tucson at one of the most important classical music venues in the world. The excitement is unparalleled and we can not be more proud of such wonderful and talented students. You can learn more about these young musicians at www.musicdancetucson.com/goldenkey. You can view videos of our students in recital and in practice on this website.
The Academy was founded in 1996 to bring exceptional music education to students of all ages and abilities. Students at the Academy begin instrumental lessons as early as age 4 in the Suzuki Program. What strikes most people when they visit the Academy, surrounded by the cacophony of lessons in progress, is the sense of joy and community contained within the walls. Students are here because they have a passion for learning and sharing the joy of making music.
The Golden Key Festival offers talented students to perform in some of the most prestigious venues around the World. Golden Key Festivals are by invitation only after an audition process.
Our goal is to raise $2000 to defray the costs in making this dream of performing at Carnegie Hall come true.
Why You Should Contribute:
Academy students come from a broad economic demographic. For many, the dedication to regular lessons and group classes are already a financial stretch, although one families are willing to make for their student. An opportunity like this is costly, but an incredible experience for a young musician, one that cannot be missed. Not all of our students dream of becoming a professional musician; some want to become astronauts, doctors, engineers and writers. But one thing is sure, their music making enriches the heart of every person it touches. The power of creative participation is the power of inspiration, collaboration and the stuff great memories are made of.
What happens if we exceed our goal:We could really use the help. In reality, making this dream come true is a big financial investment. In addition to school and after school clubs, our young performers are working hard and developing their performance skills in community outreach recitals. Every bit of extra support will be used for the performers.
Thank you for your support of these fine young musicians. They are a hard working group who take pride in daily practice and learning new pieces to share with their community. Working with them is my pleasure and privilege.
