This Kickstarter's goal is to raise enough funds for the printing of the books – the artwork, writing and assemblage is already done. Printing books allows us to get them in the hands of readers who enjoy hard-copies, attend conventions to promote the book and get into comic stores to sell to readers who may of never heard of us before. It's one of the more important steps for growing the books and allowing us to make more comics in the future!
ABOUT THE COMICS
Kay and P is a modern fantasy about a college-aged girl who's best friend is a skeleton. She tries to balance school, work and all these weird events that keep happening to her while unraveling the mystery about her skeleton companion. Book three picks up right where the last one left off with bit of a cliffhanger, and jumps head-first down the rabbit hole! Without spoilers, Kay comes into contact with several new characters who are bright, eccentric and entertaining – but not everything is sparkly and happy – there is a darker side to her new revelation too...
The comic is full color front to back, and features several comic pages that only make it into the print version! Volumes 1-3 total a whopping 420 pages total of comic goodness; each comic ringing in at about 140 pages each. They are a standard modern comic size.
The Adventures of Lady Skylark is an epic sky-pirate adventure comic in a steampunk setting. It follows the wiley Tameri (Lady Skylark) and her journey to reclaim her ship and oust her mutinous crew! In her travels she's happened upon a merchant vessel captained by Crowshaw and manned by his gentleman crew – such perfect targets for her manipulations! The Lady Skylark plans to use these well-meaning men to wrangle herself back into power and back to her ship – but something else is going on-board the vessel... a mysterious package from the Queen that seems to have importance to the rebel fleet and some sort of powerful abilities. Well, doesn't that seem like something a pirate would like to get her hands on? The action intensifies in Act Two, where things really start to go wrong for poor Crowshaw, perhaps enough for Lady Skylark to get the upper hand!
Lady Skylark is a full color, standard size comic with about eighty pages per act, plus some concept artwork and notes from the writer and illustrator that are not featured anywhere else!
A WORD FROM THE ARTIST
I'm Jackie, author/illustrator of “Kay and P”, and illustrator for “The Adventures of Lady Skylark”. Now that both comics are ready for new issues, I'm coming to you live with a giant Kickstarter campaign to print them all! I've previously run several smaller Kickstarter campaigns to print each new book in the series separately, and those have worked out wonderfully! I really am extremely grateful to all our readers and fans, and generous backers who love to support creators and the arts. We couldn't be here today without your enthusiasm.
I am a self-publishing artist, which means I do all the work myself. I write, draw and promote the comics, as well as arrange for the printing. As I do color comics, this gets very pricey very quickly, and I look to my lovely readers to help out with that! I'm doing a HUGE order this time for all three volumes of “Kay and P”, and two of “Lady Skylark”, so I'm sure you can imagine how this might be a daunting task! If you're new to the series and looking to pickup a couple books or coming back to us for the new volumes, please take a look through all these fantastic rewards and I'm sure you'll find something you'll enjoy!
Risks and challenges
Self publishing is always a challenge. You don't have the support of a big publishing house to carry the costs for you. All the hundreds of hours of scripting, drawing, promoting... that's all done by the people making the comics, and often for no personal gain.
Lucky for you, all the background work is done – no worrying the artist will burn out and quit before finishing the work, no chance of losing the writer midway through. The books are done, assembled and waiting to go – they just need that helping hand to push them forward!
I have a great printer I've worked with before who does AMAZING work who is standing by for the order and all the swag is prepped and ready. As soon as I get the books, they are shipped and out to you!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
