About

Thank you for stopping by on our project page and welcome.

Ivan Khafizov
Ivan Khafizov

For 10 years, Ivan Khafizov has been travelling around Russia, taking photographs of unique ornamented window frames of country houses. He managed to visit 271 location in his country, and now, in his virtual museum nalichniki.ru, he has more than 15000 unique exemplars. The unique culture of the Russian wooden frame was born between the 18th and 19th centuries. Within the same timeframe, this culture has reached its peek and then faded out, and an entire cultural layer was left unstudied. Today we may observe nothing but echoes of it, but even they amaze imagination.

This is the first time that we are raising money for an English variant, and we invite you to help Ivan in his noble quest of showing the Russian culture to the world in a form of a calendar. In exchange for your engagement, we offer a printed calendar for 2018, sent in a specialized package by Nalachniki.ru.

The calendar is carried out in such a way that each page represents a season with its colour spectrum. This, for instance, is January:

January
January

Despite the colour similarity, houses on which these windows were shot are situated thousands of kilometres apart. Every frame is unique, and in every village there was a craftsman, who could create an unrepeatable pattern of ornaments for an entire izba (a Russian traditional countryhouse).

August

Calendars will be sent around the world in this type of package, invented from scratch by Ivan and his team.

By making a contribution, you're not just helping us create a set of remarkable calendars. Unfortunately, this part of our culture is dying out, very little craftsmen who wield this technology is left and houses with such remarkable exterior are harder to find every year. Ivan Khafizov believes that this element of architecture is the Russian contribution to the world culture, and with your help, people like him can continue their work in preserving it for our descendants.

Thank you very much for your help :)

Risks and challenges

The only risk that we might encounter on our way is the price variation in shipment to different countries. We have tried our best to minimize this risk and have included the expenditure in our goal value.
