Before we launched our kickstarter we contacted a number of top influencers to seek their feeback on our range of silk and ceramic accessories. 1 Week's gone. Why Kickstarter and why we need to reach the goal.

Hey kickstarter,

one week has gone since our launch. We are impressed by how many people shared our project and helped us spread the word. Thank you so much!

The goal is still far away though and we need everyone's help to make this project become a reality. Even a small contribution can make a difference.

But let's talk about why we are here on kickstarter and why we need to reach our goal of £15000.

The reason why we need to reach our goal lies into the manufacturing dynamics. In order to deliver the product that we designed and prototyped at a fair price we need to purchase our components (steel, ceramic and silk) with minimum quantity orders (MQO) and go into production with at least 350 pieces.

The biggest problem we faced with MQO was with the bespoke hooks that we designed and commissioned. For finalising our prototypes we convinced the manufacturers to supply just for once a small bulk of 50 pairs. This came with a redicolous price tag of £12 a  pair which would make our collection redicolously expensive. However, with orders above 350 pairs the cost would drastically decrease and we would be able to stand by our core value of affordable luxury.

Similarly, although each and every ceramic piece is totally handmade, we researched and experimented a number of firing techniques that would massively improve the quality of the pieces. However - executed on small quantities - such techniques would make the process unsustainable and the cost extremely high.

Less problematic was the silk as it was just a matter of taking the risk to make an upfront investment to source and produce at least the minimum quantities.

All in all we could have avoided kickstarter if we had taken the risk to build a stock of around 350 pieces. And indeed this is what we we were about to do with our former label 'Mr. Potter' (the one we started this project with) when we received a warning letter from Warner Bross advising to stop using the trademark as too close to the famous Henry Potter. Although we didn't give up and got away with it, this caused a massive amount of money to go into the rebranding operation and the registration of the new trademark.

Here is where we ultimately decided to engage with the kickstarter community and gauge your interest on the design concept before making any other investment.

Ciao Kickstarter,

è passata una settimana dal giorno in cui abbiam lanciato il nostro progetto. E' stato bellissimo vedere quante persone si sono movimentate per condividere e diffondere il progetto. Grazie mille a tutti voi... vi saremo sempre riconoscenti!

Il nostro obiettivo è tuttavia ancora lontano ed abbiamo bisogn dell' aiuto di tutti voi per far si che questo progetto si concretizzi e diventi una realtà. Anche una piccola donazione può fare una grande differenza e se il progetto non raggiunge l' obiettivo di £15000 il contributo verrà automaticamente restituito da kickstarter.... o meglio non lascierà mai il vostro conto.

Permetteteci di spiegarvi perchè siamo su kickstarter e perchè necessitiamo di £15000 per far partire questo progetto.

Il motivo principale che ci porta quì a raccogliere fondi risiede nelle dinamiche produttive dei nostri prodotti. Per realizzare i prodotti che abbiamo disegnato e prototipato necessitiamo di acquistare i componenti della nostra collezione (acciaio, seta e ceramica) con quantità minime dettate dai nostri fornitori e dai costi produttivi.

In particolare, il problema più grande cha abbiamo affrontato è con i ganci che abbiamo disegnato. Per realizzare i prototipi siamo riusciti a convincere i nostri produttori a fornirci solo 50 pezzi. Questo, tuttavia, ha fatto lievitare il costo unitario di ogni coppia di ganci a circa £12. Inutile dire che questo costo renderebbe la nostra collezione super costosa ed inaccessibile. Dovessimo però raggiungere quantità superiori ai 350 pezzi allora il costo diminuirebbe drasticamente e ci consentirebbe di mettere in vendita la nostra collezione a prezzi giusti e non inflazionati.

Discorso simile vale per i componenti in ceramica che - seppure realizzati a mano - richiedono l' applicazione di particolari tecniche di cottura che risulterebbero impraticabili se eseguite su quantità piccole.

Infine la seta. Quì il discorso è meno problematico in quanto l' unico vincolo detattoci dai nostri fornitori era quello di produrre quantità minime e quindi costruire un inventario.

Morale della favola, avremo potuto evitare kickstarter facendo una produzione di circa 400 pezzi. E questa era la strada che stavamo intraprendendo con Mr. Potter - il brand col quale abbiamo iniziato questo progetto - prima di scoprire che il trademark era in collisione col famoso Henry Potter e quindi trovarci ad investire su un' operazione di rebranding e registrazione del nuovo marchio ancor prima di produrre la nostra collezione.

E' a questo punto del percorso che abbiamo deciso di focalizzare le nostre forze a risolvere tutti i problemi tecnici del progetto e a preparare questa campagna kickstarter per poi sottoporre il nostro lavoro al vostro giudizio prima di continuare ad investire i nostri risparmi.

Con la speranza che questo renda tutto più chiaro e transparente, vi chiediamo di continuare a supportarci ed aiutarci fino alla fine.
