I’ve been wanting to do a PDF book for some time. The motivation behind it is the fact that I’ve made hundreds of objects and textures and environments through the years that never get used. My goal was to make a versatile print-and-play PDF that would provide countless configurations in a desert spaceport environment. There is only so much you can fit in a standard map. There are limited ways to produce an actual product of this scale, and my goal was to create something that someone could take to Kinkos or print at home with nominal fuss, and financial commitment.
The book contains several different types of tiles. Some are actual standalone buildings, some buildings are furnished, some aren’t; Some are blank terrain pages that you can cut into whatever you need, while other blank terrain pages are preshaped, and also feature walls. To populate the empty terrain and buildings several pages of objects, with different terrain backgrounds are provided. Some artistic modifications have been made to light and shadowing, giving the tiles an “evermotion” visual effect, which will make the tiles much easier to rotate without there being discrepancies in lighting. ( I can’t stand it when shadows are willynilly in too many directions)
In an attempt to make this set as INCLUSIVE to new and old fans, I am making one version WITHOUT terrain markings, and another WITH the traditional terrain markings I’ve used in the past.
The tiles depict EVERYTHING you will need to have a meaningful action packed, plot-filled adventure: Houses, Hideouts, Bars, Shops, Security Stations, and Spacedocks!
In addition to the tilesets: 2 new 24x36 inch encounter scale maps will be available as add-on pledges.
Docking Station with and without ship
Desert Encounter Grid featuring various environmental tiles.
Stretch Goals: 2000 Dollars
The next planned tile set, which is also almost completed, will be the Capital Ship. It includes everything you need to explore a massive ship: Various bridges, control rooms, berthing areas, engineering sections, and other points of interest. 50 tiles, as well blank 2 22x34 port and starboard hangar bays.
If this Kickstarter reaches 2000 dollars, the Capital Ship tiles will be included as a reward, however those may not be totally complete
Risks and challenges
The only risk is a missed deadline. The project is already 30 percent completed, so there is no reason at all that when October comes the all the tiles won't be complete. No shipping is involved.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
