Inspired by the role-playing video game genre, Warriors of the Crystal is a lovingly crafted, turn-based homage to the games we love.
Made for fans, by a fan, it takes classic archetypes like Paladins, Wizards, and Knights; placing them in an easy to pick up, but deeply strategic card game for up to four players.
Not only does the card game have intricate strategic game play, but there's a deep lore and history to this world. As the game expands, the universe of Warriors of the Crystal will expand as well. Two books, which chronicle adventures from this world, are in the final stages of production with the possibility of more as the game expands. In addition to the novels and card game, we will also be offering a CD soundtrack and world map posters.
There's only the original base set now, but there is enough generated material to add a total of six expansions, possibly more. If the game continues to thrive after that, there is no doubt Warriors of the Crystal can give the players even more.
To make everything come together, it's going to take some talented artists, websites, advertising, and word of mouth. The Kickstarter funding will ensure top-notch artwork for the cards are made, and stock a supply of physical merchandise is secured. Regardless, pass or fail, we are committed to making this happen and dedicated to seeing this project through to the end.
How do you play?

The game pits up to four players in a duel using a party of three Unit Cards. The objective is to defeat those Unit Cards, depleting a player's Crystal Points to zero in order to knock them out of the game. The last remaining player is the victor!
Utilizing Combat Cards to inflict extra damage and Status Effects like Poison, Crystal Cards to cause special effects like drawing extra cards, and using Ambush Cards to lay traps are all part of an evolving strategy to win the game.
Further more, some cards allow you to change a Unit Card's element. There are eight elements in total, each in opposite pairs. Use these elements do inflict massive damage to your foes, but be careful! Other players can use the same elements to increase their damage against you, too!
“Highly enjoyable. Think somewhere between Magic the Gathering card game and a Final Fantasy turn-based RPG computer game.” -Dan Brubaker, fan
“I’ve played Warriors of the Crystal a few times now. It was easy to pick up and play, especially if you’re familiar with turn based RPGs like Final Fantasy. Even though it was easy to learn, there is a complexity to it as well. Each time I’ve played, I came up with new ideas about how to approach my next game. Very fun to play. I look forward to the next time I can play it again.” -Joe DeSantis, fan

What can you get for backing this Kickstarter?
What I can't show yet are the custom pieces and the wooden boxes yet. We're still working out the kinks with the laser, but once we have it worked out, we'll post an update!
Risks and challenges
Producing a card game comes with its own interesting challenges.
The biggest challenge is artwork. That sounds silly coming from someone who says he's an artist, but drawing in the style needed for this game is not my strong point. Commissioned artwork will be needed to complete everything. We want this to be a real big collaboration between many different artists, to truly give the game its own flavor.
Beyond that, the other biggest challenges are simply advertisements and vendors. Much of our exposure the game currently has is what can be done for free or for cheap, and for the moment, is dependent nearly entirely on word of mouth. This will allow advertising in a way to grab people's attention from the get go using better sites, more videos, and travelling to events to promote the game, with the final goal of getting onto store shelves at your local gaming and hobby shops.
Physical inventory is also an issue. Using a third party website to physically produce the cards means all items need to be ordered, manufactured, and shipped. While this does mean there an essentially limitless supply, it's hard for to keep a decent supply on hand at all times
With the Kickstarter, we should have ample starting funds to make sure a good stock can be kept, pay some great artists, and travel to vendors and destinations to get people interested in purchasing the game. We want to always engage our fans!
Regardless if the Kickstarter succeeds or fails, I will do my best to complete the project, and get it rolling. It may take longer, but I'm dedicated to bringing it to everyone!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
