iEXOS PMC-Eight 100™ 90 (IEQ-90)

Many of us have some experience with a budget-priced telescope, and once you have gotten a taste of visually exploring the craters on the moon, seeing the rings of Saturn for the first time, or perceiving the glowing gas of the Great Orion Nebula, you are at the doorstep of the cosmos.

Through astrophotography we can go well beyond our visual reach through a telescope. But most budget-priced telescopes limit you to the visual realm. To take these next steps you need the right gear to be equipped for a life-enhancing and never-ending journey of celestial exploration. Capturing the ethereal beauty of the celestial treasures overhead is truly thrilling and deepens your understanding of our real connection with the universe. The iEXOS PMC-Eight 100™ 90 is designed from the ground up to give you such priceless experiences with simplicity, precision and affordability.

Features of the iEXOS PMC-Eight 100™ 90 (IEQ-90)

The iEXOS PMC-Eight 100™ 90 is a versatile 90mm aperture refracting telescope package that offers standout performance in both visual observing and imaging situations. It offers the benefits of a high-end astrophotography telescope — such as equatorial tracking, precision auto-guiding, multiple imaging set-ups, and high definition optics — without the prohibitive price tag. These features include:

German Equatorial Mount

When it comes to tracking the stars with a telescope, there is nothing that compares to a German equatorial mount. While there are a few "next generation" types of telescopes emerging with alt-azimuth style computerized mounts, we chose to revisit the German equatorial style mount that was invented by Joseph von Fraunhofer in 1824 for what was considered the first modern telescope. Although many developments have been introduced in the almost two centuries since Fraunhofer came up with his revolutionary approach, his equatorial design is still the mount of choice by amateur astronomers when it comes to astrophotography. This is because this type of mount precisely tracks objects as they rise in the east and set in the west, which avoids common astrophotography pitfalls like field rotation. By utilizing this groundbreaking mount design, the iEXOS PMC-Eight 100™ 90 removes these obstacles to help you achieve a rewarding imaging experience.

Wireless GOTO System with Precision Motor Drive

Before you can track an object, you need to find it, and that objective can be daunting when you’re faced with a vast expanse of inky black sky. The iEXOS PMC-Eight 100™ 90 puts a powerful GOTO system in your arsenal of astronomical tools that takes the frustration out of navigating the night sky. This streamlined version of our PMC-Eight system transcends the industry standard single processor by utilizing eight CPUs that operate independently of one another to focus on defined functions. This delegation of tasks among the processors results in a system that offers superior responsiveness, efficiency, reliability and astoundingly fast timing intervals for seamless images and accurate tracking. Although it is internally complex, the GOTO system can be easily operated from your own smart device using the ExploreStars app, which has an intuitive nature that makes it simple and quick to align your telescope, navigate the stars and learn specifics about tens of thousands of celestial objects. This dynamic app is fueled by a database that is routinely updated to ensure it remains a relevant resource.

Multiple Imaging Set-Ups

The celestial beauties that populate the night sky include the stream of stars that define our own Milky Way, sweeping distant galaxies with wide spiraling arms, impressive nebulae teeming with glowing dust or our own planetary neighbors with stunning rings or billowing cloud belts. All of these are worth documenting, but there is not one all-encompassing astrophotography setup that can do each one justice. The versatile iEXOS PMC-Eight 100™ 90 expands your astrophotography options and allows you to capture more by giving you multiple ways to image. It includes a digital camera that can be mounted on the front of the setup to photograph larges sections of the sky for super wide field subjects like the Milky Way or meteor showers or substituted for the eyepiece to utilize the telescope’s lens system for individual deep sky subjects or close-up views. It also has a built-in camera mount so you can easily attach your own DSLR camera to the top of the telescope for piggyback astrophotography.

Pixel Precision Guiding

As a final measure to help you achieve pinpoint accuracy in your long exposure photographs, the iEXOS PMC-Eight 100™ 90 can take auto guided tracking down to the pixel level to ensure that your final image result has round stars. This is useful when using the telescope in "piggyback" mode where you can attach a DSLR camera to the bracket on the telescope tube assembly. The auto-guiding mechanism is designed to battle even the smallest tracking errors and make minute corrections to the position of the mount to avoid imaging imperfections like slight elongations in stars.

Expert Instruction to Simplify Astrophotography

Those who have never imaged before or even operated a telescope often see becoming an astrophotographer as an unattainable goal. Your investment will give you access to Explore Scientific's Online Learning and help you overcome common imaging obstacles. Through the Webinar you will get expert step-by-step training. For an additional investment, this Webinar can also include two one-on-one coaching sessions with an expert from Explore Scientific.

Where Will My Telescope Ship From?

Explore Scientific has offices and warehouse distribution in China, Europe, and the USA where will ship the iEXOS PMC-Eight 100™ 90 to a worldwide audience.

About Explore Scientific

In 2008, avid amateur astronomer Scott Roberts poured his boundless passion for astronomy and his more than 30 years worth of experience in the astronomy optics industry into launching his own company – Explore Scientific.

Since then, Explore Scientific has been on a mission to make astronomy accessible and provide a truly transformative experience by giving enthusiasts of all skill levels the tools and guidance they need to explore the skies.

In the beginning, the company focused on building its reputation in the astronomy community by designing high quality telescopes and premium eyepieces that rose to demanding standards of clarity, contrast and functionality.

Soon Explore Scientific began branching out into other areas of the optics industry thanks in large part to strategic partnerships. In 2009, we began a mutually beneficial relationship with Bresser, a Germany-based company that has grown since its 1957 inception to become a leader in Europe’s optics industry. Through this collaboration, Explore Scientific became the exclusive distributor of Bresser products throughout the Americas and expanded our offerings to include binoculars, microscopes and other instruments for both outdoor sports and science enthusiasts. In 2010, Jinghua Optical Electronics Co., Ltd., (JOC) partnered with Roberts, allowing Explore Scientific to expand our brand and focus more of our energy into creating superior instruments. Based in China, JOC is a leader in Asia’s optical manufacturing field and is the exclusive manufacturer of Explore Scientific products.

Whether one is talking about the partners we have chosen or the products we produce, each decision at Explore Scientific has been and continues to be made with our customers in mind. We are committed to designing, building and selling high-quality observation instruments and accessories of all types, sizes and skill levels while providing top-notch customer service and engaging people through extensive outreach efforts.

Risks and challenges

Explore Scientific is celebrating its 10th Anniversary in 2018 as a telescope designer and fabricator with a team that brings many decades of experience to the table. For the first time we are bringing a project to Kickstarter with the iEXOS PMC-Eight 100™ 90 to give people the opportunity to own a precision small telescope to learn visual astronomy and the craft of astrophotography.

The iEXOS PMC-Eight 100™ 90 design is complete and tooling has been made. By backing this project, we can begin the first production run of the iEXOS PMC-Eight 100™ 90 and you can be one of the first to explore a telescope and astrophotographic system that incorporates features found in the best-in-class equipment that costs many times more.

The IEQ-90 includes almost everything that you need for visual and astrophotographic observations... all you need to add is a tablet or computer to operate the mount (OS systems include Windows, Android, and iOS), and a PC computer with Windows to operate the camera. While an interface device (tablet or PC) could have been built-in to the iEXOS PMC-Eight 100™ 90, we felt that development of these devices changes at such a fast pace, that a fixed, built-in interface computer device would quickly make the product obsolete.
