STRANGERS IN A STRANGE LAND

You’ve captured the first 6 of these strange soldiers, with their unusual clothing and peculiar speech. Well done! That brings your haul of free stretch goal miniatures to 160, which is pretty impressive by any measure. Few games include as much, and all this is in addition to the core game contents!

However, you are right to suspect that these unfamiliar warriors may not be alone. Certainly, something strange is going on. Among other things, a second note has been found.

While you ponder its meaning, you must continue the advance. The next bulwark to assault is the heights at $1,300k. It seems that these hide more of this new force, this time in the form of 4 Sipahi or Noble cavalry. It’s hard to tell which at this distance. And what’s the difference anyway?

The Sipahi are extremely swift and nimble horsemen, with a movement of 3, and the ability to slip away from an attack if they roll a blank on their defence. They clearly perform scouting duties, and will threaten the flanks of any careless opponent with ease. Fighting against them will be a big change to facing the more familiar knights.

The Noble cavalry are both more aggressive and more heavily armoured than the Sipahis, but even these heavier cavalry are nimble horsemen. Rather than the attacker choosing which area a defeated unit is pushed back into, the Noble cavalry get to decide for themselves. But be careful. Even in defence these wily horsemen can be lethal. Their Retaliation skill allows them to harm attackers who grow too careless.

All told, these riders are most elusive and dangerous foes. They are faster than your men, and can advance at lighting speed and still attack. You will need to rethink your to defeat them.

Now, elusive or not we need to advance and capture them! Onward! To victory!

@Lachlan - janissaries were around before Joan of Arc.

@Danny The Ottomans made an incursion in Europe at pretty much the same time as the HYW so although it's not the main subject of the game, I like diversity more than more of the same they could very much offer instead.

Echoing some of the others’ thoughts: the Ottoman Empire didn’t come about until 1453, essentially the end of the medieval period.

Would have loved to see the Moors instead :)

Over 60 Kickstarters backed, and I'm still surprised by the strange, self-righteous tone so many backers assume in the comments. I must be a slow learner.

We're backers, not co-creators, and there are thousands of us. Not every decision or stretch goal that is good for the project's scope or reach is going to necessarily suit every individual's taste. Why not just support the creators and enjoy the ride?

@Danny - OK. I think that's an extremely narrow view, but you're welcome to it. I also think the comments below yours suggest that you're in a minority on this one.

I don't get the ottoman tangent or the William Wallace one either. They are jarring.

@ Jake - Yes mate, I am. 730 miniatures relating to the games main theme is better than 700 miniatures relating to the games main theme + 30 miniatures that are not. As I said, it is a series of wasted stretch goals that could have added to the main theme of the game. There is so much more that is contained within the main theme of the game that could be explored, adding to the game...and they don't have to be miniatures, they could be scenarios, further campaigns too.

@Danny - we already have something like 700 miniatures on the core theme. And you're objecting to less than a dozen on a new one?

The sculpts are technically great...a great shame that they weren't French or English scouts, who certainly had their own scouts. I don't get the ottoman tangent when there are so many other stretch goals for the French and English that could be filled...a great many more characters from the period, more troops types from the period for the French and English (scouts being a perfect example), many more mythical creatures tied explicitly to the region and time, more scenarios for the French and English using the core troops of the game...so much more could be done for the core theme of the game without diverging off in weird tangents like the ottomans, and wasting perfectly good stretch goals that would enhance the core theme of the game...
