Hello Mythic Gamers!

It’s Wednesday again and we’re back with one more “What’s Up Wednesday” and much more exciting news for Solomon Kane!

One more mystery to reveal...in Death's Black Riders!
One more mystery to reveal...in Death's Black Riders!

We already gave you a sneak preview last week, showing you a brand new mini of a man on a horse. Since you’re already familiar with the Death’s Black Riders minis, you must have gotten by now that this man is not a Death’s Black Rider at all…

And that’s true because that mini is Solomon Kane on a horse!

*insert cheers of joy and fulfilment*

While this may have come to you as a surprise, it’s a thing that we’ve been discussing throughout the entire development of the Death’s Black Riders story.

Let me shed some more light into how the developing process went and how we came up with a brand-new exciting surprise for you!

They won’t be the only ones to be on a horse anymore! Hey ho!
They won’t be the only ones to be on a horse anymore! Hey ho!

As we were developing the story, we noticed that we were using all the miniatures that were needed. Solomon Kane, Greta the Huntress, Hermann the Blacksmith, *spoiler*, *spoiler*, and *spoiler*. But when it came to the Death’s Black Riders themselves, we’d only use three of them.

And at the same time, we were putting Solomon Kane in some really intense scenes against them too! Chases, ambushes and clashes in the night were offering epic moments but having our beloved Puritan on foot was ruining that treasured feeling of immersion.

We couldn’t let our beloved Solomon stay on foot… It’s a fair game now!
We couldn’t let our beloved Solomon stay on foot… It’s a fair game now!

The best solution for the game was to remove one of Death’s Black Riders and replace it with a mounted Solomon Kane, but whilst the amount of plastic would be the same, it would require additional sculpting and manufacturing cost. In the end, we decided that it would be worth it to improve the experience of playing Solomon Kane.

Now Solomon Kane can join the fray mounted upon his trusty steed and take on the Death’s Black Riders in full force! And this opens up many new possibilities that we wish to explore further into future stories too!

It’s an exciting world to explore once you have a mount available!

And here we got some close-ups:

With both pistols at the ready Kane is a formidable force!

Our sculptor artists did a phenomenally excellent work once more, giving attention to detail, making sure that this mini rightfully belongs to the group of the 4 different Solomon Kane miniatures you can play your game with!

It’s not just a mini… Check on its size and shape compared to the other riders!

Voici quelques gros plans :

It looks fantastic. I'm so excited to get this game and start playing.....and to paint the minis :O)
If we only ever need 3 Deaths Black Riders in the game, it's a perfect solution to make the 4th one into Solomon Kane.
We really appreciate you doing this, even though it'll cost you some extra money. That really show us that you care about making a fantastic game, more than to earn lots of money. And that's why we love you guys and support you.

    2. Sean "TheShellFace" on

@Fotios Detsis yes, there were originally 4 black riders but only 3 were ever needled while playing, so rather than have an unused black rider mini they exchanged it for Solomon on horseback. So same number of minis in the end, but now they will all have use :D

    3. Fotios Detsis on

So mounted Kane exchanged place with a Black Rider?

Looks great! Is there room/need for a scenario while sailing to these other locations? Either with the crew or sea monsters?

      Awesomeness in progress!

Solomon looks great...an early Lone Ranger!!

Thanx for the great substitute figure!!!

Very generous of you! I know it must have cost you an extra $1000 or 2 to do this, thank you!

      Solomon Kane's horse's name?

      "Unlucky"

    13. Hitchhiker on

Hi, thanks for the mounted Solomon!

I believe you use the same moulds for all horses, aren't you?
If not, then a different pose of Solomon's horse would be appreciated. If yes, then of course it's still a new Solomon for us and clever resource management on your side.

Okay, so if I understand the update correctly, then Solomon Kane on a horse isn't really an *additional* mini, but comes instead of the 4th mini of Death's Black Riders, right? If we never need that 4th rider anyway, that definitely sounds like a good option to me!

      Philippe Knaff on

Beautiful sculpts, but as others have mentioned, why do all horses wear rope halters instead of proper riding bridles?

Looks like a great sculpt! Thanks, Mythic!
Now for a very important question: what is the name of Solomon’s horse?

    17. Deane Geiken on

Looks fantastic! But as an avid and often shooter of flintlock pistols and rifles, those pistols have either never been loaded, or in a bit of bad luck, he forgot to close the pan on both of them and the priming powder has been lost. As it is, both frizzens (or steels) are in a position that will not allow a spark to his the powder in the pan should he pull the trigger. The lock on the right hand pistol in the position to fire, while the one in the second is in the half cock position making it impossible to fire. If you want it to look like he is *about* to fire, pull both cocks back and move the frizzens to sit on the pan where the priming powder would go. If you want it to look like he just fired both, move the locks forward so that the are pointing down into the pan with the frizzen (steels) in the open position as they are now. The minis are great but this is HUGE mistake when you are talking about detail! It would be the equivalent of him brandishing his sword with the scabbard still on! It was the very first thing I noticed in the sculpt.

    18. Lau on

@Paul but he won't be able to reload? Or maybe l should just stop and enjoy the mini :P

Why is the briddle made of rope ? It's weird and doesn't match the fact that the horse is saddled.

I would love to get a second set of the black riders,

      for reasons

    25. ray bans
      Superbacker
      on

As someone who grew up riding horses

depending on the temperment and training of the horse, steering and riding without reigns is possible, including for long periods of time,

and the need of blinders is really dependent on the temperament of the horse.

I used to ride with a fair few people that used blinders, but I never needed them for my main two horses.

    26. Alfonso Madruga on

Battle horses are trained not to be easily spooked by surrounding chaos. They can be set on a course and the rider's hands are 'free' but this is usually achieved by the use of blinders. I don't know that a horse that has full awareness of the environment is reliable enough to be ridden without hands for extended periods of time.

    27. Paul Callaghan on

Awesome! You should do a mounted version of every figure :). Oh and @Lau, have you never seen a mounted bowman? Look no hands! Show offs :)

    30. Lau on

l've never ridden a horse, but shouldn't he use one hand (preferably the left) to hold the reins? Other than that it's a cool concept and if you never use more than three of the riders, l'd say it's a welcomed change!

    31. Alfonso Madruga on

Super boulot !
